I traded my Cutty for the C1 and have no regrets. Only thing I would say is worse about the C1 is getting it out of hangers.

I have both and I gotta say...They both have their merits. Main thing for me is I use the Spirit for actual Delivery missions as the rear is bigger than the Cutty. I use the Cutty for bunker and assault missions as it's smaller and more able to land in tighter spots than the Spirit. All said and done, they're both awesome ships to have when matching with the best application.

I love how everyone seems to forget that the C1 also has very powerful VTOL thrusters. That and its absurd levels of boost make the Spirit amazing.
  • C1 has a V-tol mode, turning the side thrusters and pointing downward, increasing the insane thrust strength to over 12g, making it better than cutlass Vtol, without sacrificing the forward thruster, That makes it a good fighter using v-tol mode.

VERY important consideration that was missed : The Cutty has 3 ways in, but the C1 has only 1. Now that vaulting has been improved, one can reliably enter the Cutlass Black through one or both side doors, depending on terrain, if the ramp is inaccessible, due to misjudgement or shifting in the wind. The C1 has only the ramp entry. The amazing Cutty side doors have saved me from being locked out during numerous missions, and even work well as windows.

I upgraded from aurora to cuti black within my first week of playing and after 2 years of playing I'm convinced it's the best choice I ever made. It's fun, easy to fly, super versatile, and with a two man crew you find yourself making quick work of bounties. Being able to jump across the system and back without stopping is a massive thumbs up. Great ship

Will alwaysbhave a spot in my heart for the cutty, she was my first upgrade and multi crew ship. But i do really enjoy my C1. I really couldn't choose wich one i like better.

Upgraded the Cutty to the C1 for primarily hauling the RoC around and quick jaunts. Even does ok in Vandul Swarm. No regrets.

I use my Cutty to rescue/airlift stranded players.. either dropping them on their floating ships or in one case players were incapped by terrain (no idea how, I just work here). With the incapped players I had to tractor their bodies up to the ship from a hover position above. You can not do this when standing on a ship ramp. Something about the physics of the ramp makes it not part of the ship and prevents you from locking onto an object with a tractor (at least in atmo and gravity). I had to tractor those 3 people from the side door of the cutty black. I will always have a cutty but would consider getting a C1 as well.

Fair comparison. The Cutty has been my daily driver for years and is an excellent all-rounder, allowing the player to experience many of SC's gameplay loops, in a surprisingly productive manner. I only recently got to fly a C1 (someone left one abandoned, lying inverted on a landing pad on a mining outpost, so I "borrowed" it for an hour or two), so my experience with it is limited. However, the one thing that became immediately apparent to me was how much easy it is to enter and exit the Cutty. This is a concern when one is engaged in activities such as ROC mining, when the player is frequently entering and exiting the ship. Time is money! Another clear advantage to the Cutty is its side doors which make loading loot (guns, corpses, weapons stripped from ships, etc.) easier, with no need to always run around to the rear of the ship to access the rear entrance. The final thing that stood out to me was the smaller footprint, allowing the Cutty to land in tighter confines, closer to outpost buildings, potentially closer to surface gem deposits when ROC mining, etc. With that being said, the C1 looks like a capable ship and, for many players, will be an excellent upgrade from the base starter ships.

I love flying the Spirit more, but the turret makes the cutty just a little bit more survivable against an ambush. Really a matter of preference between these two.

I have both and once I started to daily the C1 I haven't taken the Cutty Black out. When the Cutty Black gets a Gold Pass it could improve things. The issues with the C1 are the hangars you spawn in or get allocated being very tight with clearances and the low landing gear making landing outside of landing pads a little tricky to get right 1st time.
  • @coreylester421
You mentioned the cutty has VTOL but missed that the C1 also has VTOL.
  • @Storm-Cleaver
I'm really loving the Spirit line too. The Cutty is a classic but I'm not much of a Drake man myself. Since the E1 isn't flyable yet, I have a C1 and I flew it as my daily driver in 3.21. I love the rear doors. It's nice being able to land, close that last door, then lower the ramp, leave the ramp down while you're running your mission objectives, then head back to a secure ship.

i managed to fit 70+ crates in the Cutty from salvage with a vulture, managed to fit the paint of an entire c2 in it, it was only slighty scary stacking boxes with no snapping. I even lost a few from them just vanishing into the void when i picked them up.
  • Cutlass Black is the best to my playstyle I can land and take off really fast with position landing and if a fast fighter is trying to kill your fly up turn your engines turn all the way around and turn your engines again so your fly past them what all your speed it has the most advantages in a bad situation
  • @FreeFragUK
I picked up the Cutlass Black for its multirole capability and its potential as a dropship. I want to love my Spirit but unfortunately I find the assignment of small hangars to be a significant problem along with the limitation of 2 x MFD's (there's a big hole in the dash begging for a 3rd).
