The massive prison population in the U.S. is getting older. Long sentences that were handed out decades ago are catching up with the American justice system, and prisons across the country are dedicating entire units just to house the elderly.

During difficult economic times, the issue has hit a crisis point. Estimates are that locking up an older inmate costs three times as much as a younger one.

The point is these men were young at one point and did heinous acts. I'm sure their victim's would've liked to grow old...

One thing that occurs to me is "release them to what"? Nobody is going to want to take care of most of them.

They are getting 3 meals a day, a roof over their head and free medical care. Many children in America don’t even get that.

The inmate over 100 years old actually is getting better care than if he were in a nursing home.

Imagine some of these guys being In there since the late 1940s-50s imagine how it’d feel to get out to literally see an entire different world

“The elderly are harmless” Two minutes later… “He shot two women at 82” 😂

Videos like these should be shown in every high school in the country
  • Getting old doesn't suddenly make you a good person. Getting old doesn't give you immunity to consequences. Getting old doesn't reverse the damage that you have done. Many of their victims were never given the opportunity to get old.

Everybody is against long prison sentences until they hear the crimes
  • Having had my brother brutally murdered in his sleep. I can honestly say that no. These people didn't give thier victims any choice.
  • @missydomingo907
Ironically some of these elderly prisoners would be better taken care of in prison than on the outside.
  • It cost $70,000 to Loco them up a year but only give old people who are free 22k a year to live on ? That’s what’s wrong with America. Greed and carelessness

No matter how badass you are in life, old age will get you!
  • @yessir.7937
I only feel sorry for the innocent people who have gone into prison for a crime they did not commit.
  • @myiasteele7324
Getting old in jail is a scary situation but being murdered and or sexually assaulted as well being robbed is another so it’s hard for me to feel anything for these imates
  • @Serpentoffire
My empathy for these inmates is the same they felt for their victims!
  • @berrydivo3702
This video should be shown in elementary through high schools to show exactly the result of criminal activity when a person is young.
  • @mesij6798
“Because they’re harmless” Um have you ever worked in a nursing home??
  • @dannydougin3925
50 is not elderly ... 60 is not elderly .... 70 is the start of being "elderly." 🙄
  • @kialuvsyoo
When people say you'll rot in jail, THIS is what they're envisioning.
