Nice work undertaking this monster task!

The piano arrangements and performances absolutely elevate these videos and I just wanna make sure they get the recognition they deserve

sometimes I forget that Bismuth is a trained pianist, and then he whips out a piano cover of an iconic synthwave banger like We're Finally Landing
  • @kingawsume
The We're Landing piano version took until "Bismuth presents" until I realized what it was. Good show, lad.

"hippo manippo" to this day remains my favorite name for any speedrun strat in a game
  • @pavfeira
This is a terrific breakdown, but shoutout to Bald Bull 1. All too often, I see high level play and think "oh wow, that was clean" only for the streamer to sigh and grumble, and I don't have the context to understand what went wrong.

This vid broke down the AI ahead of time, but then also showed the AI choices with "good" or "bad" overlaid on the video. That gave me all the context I needed to go "oh, yeah, he got screwed by RNG" and be right there with Salt. Great editing work!
  • I really enjoyed the quick explanations right before showing the IRL run footage. It helped me understand what I'm about to watch so succinctly.
  • @ZachGatesHere
Mario strat names: Pipe clip, carpetless, flagpole glitch

MTPO strat names: Hippo Manippo, Dizzy Destroyer, the 1918 Congressional Redistribution

I really want to highlight how much better this probability analysis is than the really common "just multiply a bunch of numbers together" approach that gives impressively massive, meaningless values. It's not just more accurate - it allows visualisations like your final slide down to "what does a 1 in a million run look like" at the end. You even get to sense-check your estimate by comparing to Salt's run-count, and they're very reasonably comparable when you add in the element of human execution.

I really love this, and want to give you a big pat on the back to encourage more of it.
  • When an unstoppable force meets an unmoveable object, they have a crossover video
  • @haniyasu8236
As a side tangent, it's so cool to me that all the graphs here are a very good example of the Central Limit Theorem. Even tho a lot of the individual cases have weird probabilities and oddly-shaped graphs, when you add all of them up, they pretty quickly turn into that classic S-shaped normal distribution
  • @AlienoidNovace
"Babe wake up a new Speedrun Explanation video dropped!"
"Oh neat! Is it a Bismuth one or a Summoning Salt one?"
    "Yes."
  • @jasoncolvin5725
I somehow only found your channel recently bismuth and I'm so glad I did. As someone who loves deep dives into anything, I found your channel to be top-tier quality hands down. The amount of time and energy you put into your videos shows for itself so you should be proud because your killing it man 👏
  • @KPhoenix34
The intro music being a piano intro of Salt’s intro song is so fucking peak, Bismuth.
  • @Ara_Arasaka
The cover of Home We’re Finally Landing to open this on piano is so fucking cute. I love these two creators so much.
