The wooden roller coaster is probably the best looking coaster type in the game and it's also pretty damn good. In this video we take a look at all the ins and outs of the wooden coaster.

  • It's weird to think that the little kid version of me would have never expected to be regularly watching in-depth analysis videos of a game he loved now at the age of 33, but here we are. Marcel is the hero little me didn't know he'd get

I used to lament having this as my only option when starting a scenario. These days, it's one of my favorites to design.
  • Congrats on getting a sponsor. You really have nailed the niche of spirit of the law for RCT2. Who knew these games I used to play would still be going so strong.
  • Actually, the vertical loop on the wooden coaster was developed during one of the RCT1 expansions, this was when Son of Beast was just under a month before opening its gates to the public.

The classic Wooden Coaster is what instantly comes to mind when I think of Roller Coaster Tycoon.
  • The biggest thing I've learned over the months from your channel is that kid me was giving guests an absolute bargain on ticket prices. I was scared to go above a few dollars in fear that nobody would ever ride them.

Your park isn't a park until you have a wooden coaster in it! And I would say even in real life woodies are the best coasters, so nostalgic.
  • I loved Woodchip as a kid playing RCT1. Though my love of it was mostly based around the fact that it was a roller coaster that actually worked and I was very bad at the game.
  • @C.I...
These days, I almost exclusively make block-braked coasters. It takes ages to optimise, but it's so satisfying to see the timing get to the point where a train arrives every time one leaves, and trains never stop on the layout. I've found separate exit stations really help with this. Also it's fun watching all the trains cascade and stop in the middle when the ride breaks down; That's another thing you have to account for - every block has to accommodate an empty train starting there from a standstill. I just wish block brakes could have a custom speed. Now that we have the new save format, hopefully it comes soon!
  • When I started to play RCT in 2001/2002 (I was a 9 years old kid), I would never have imagined having one day contents like your videos. Thank you, Marcel Vos ; from the deep of my heart. This channel is one of my favorites EVER on Youtube. Thank You.
  • Love the ad. I find it hysterical that YouTube recommends that you watch your own videos.
  • "The ability to make the color brown look great. . ." Love that take, Marcel.
  • Usually I know the fun facts about the rides in RCT2, but I must admit that I never realized Colossus and Rolling Thunder were built to fit together. I always thought they were similar designs built for different real life parks. So many years
  • Fun fact: Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 had two separate types of wooden rollercoasters. 1: The basic "Wooden Coaster" had either standard 4 seater cars, or 4 seater reversed (Both with max 7 cars), and had access to the vertical loop and water splash 2: The "Wooden Twister Coaster" is the one with articulated trains (Max 10 cars) that came out in the Added Attractions expansion pack, which had access to steep turns and spirals unlike the basic wooden coaster. In Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, these two were combined into one, with the color schemes of the Wooden Twister.
  • My favorite coaster type to build, it looks amazing in almost any setting and the low friction allows for designs that are short in height but long and full of elements
  • For those of you wondering about exactly each wooden coaster train is… 4 and 6 seat trains: PTC/Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, widely used on many parks worldwide such as Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce (4 seat) and Rebel Yell/Racer 75 at Kings Dominion (6 seat) Articulated trains: GCI/Great Coasters International Millennium Flyers used on their own coasters such as Lighting Racer at Hershey Park and Wodan Timber Coaster at Europa Park
  • I like having a long "Dipper" style wooden coaster on the edge of the park that spans the length while just being a few tiles wide due to the steep tilted turn on the way back, adding the loop and splash makes for a good looking coaster that takes up a lot of space but only the few tiles on the edge which aren't as important.

God I love this game. I played it so much back when I was in elementary school and getting the first one, corkscrew follies and loop landscapes multiple Christmases were some of the best memories I've had. Thank you for these videos!!
