  • "Keep your feet off the grass, shine your shoes, wipe your...face," is something I still sing to myself, don't even need a reason. 😊

Yes Jen, the trick is to tame the dragon and then ride it… Donkey has that well in hand 😏 Re. the animation. Shrek came out about 6 years after Toy Story, which had been the first full-length CG animated feature, so it wasn’t exactly groundbreaking in that sense. It did kind of break Pixar’s monopoly on big box-office success for CG animated movies, though, and it did make some pretty big technical advances in realistic vegetation and terrain (all the grass blades, trees, leaves etc) and fluid animation. The close-up shot of the milk being poured was pretty advanced for its day, and so was all the fire that the dragon breathed. Shrek 2 is DEFINITELY worth your time!

I LOVE that Jen is a Monkees fan! Almost no one, these days, have even heard of them.
  • 11:00 "I'm curious if we're gonna see... the Puss in Boots character in this movie." Ah. Not in the first movie in the franchise, but he does come along.
  • @edbone3035
Incredibly hard to imagine anyone hasn’t seen shrek 😳
  • @Dillpicks95
One of the best animated films ever, it’s such a classic. Mike Myers was great as Shrek and Eddie Murphy as Donkey was perfect, he was definitely the standout and you gotta watch Shrek 2 it’s even better.
  • @Stuck-n-da-90s
My favorite line. Have you ever met a person, you say, "Let's get some parfait," they say, "Hell no, I don't like no parfait."? Parfaits are delicious!
  • @RobertJW
The DVD extra commentary track for this movie was both entertaining and fascinating.

I will never forget seeing this when it came out. My boss at work was cranky that all his daughter wanted was for him to take her to see Shrek. He though it was inappropriate for her age. Eventually after me nagging him forever, I was like, dude, you'll love it as much as she will. He took her twice, once for her birthday and then went back by himself three times. Brendan the big softie :P

Hey Jen, this movie literally saved the Dreamworks studio. They were making over budget flop after flop and then they hit on "Shrek" and realized animated movies are gold. ------ All thanks to the power of "Shrek"
  • @mikechen8075
The person that Voiced the villain king was the tallest person in the cast.
  • @Gnomojo
This reaction rekindled my flame for Shrek. I’ll be honest. Shrek came out when I was 21. So. I was kinda in between those kid jokes and the truly ironic adult jokes. Thanks for reminding me how good this movie was. Both Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy absolutely killed these roles.

I don't think anyone would deny how much of an absolute blast this movie is. The voice cast are all excellent, the animation (At least at the time was gorgeous) and I love the original score. Such a classic! 🔥 Apparently Mike Myers orginally didnt do a Scottish accent for Shrek, but last minute he asked Spielberg (who was producing) if he could redo the whole film in a Scottish accent...Great choice if thats true. 👌
  • A friend of mine used to use Shrek as a litmus test for his dates. If you liked Shek you were probably Ok.
  • @trinaq
Apparently, Chris Farley was supposed to be the voice of Shrek, but he sadly passed away before he could. Reportedly, there's still vocal footage of Chris as Shrek.
  • @joemasters2270
I like how Both Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy are known for playing multiple characters in other movies. Mike Myers - Austin Powers Eddie Murphy - Nutty Professor
  • @RobertJW
18:17 these jokes are left over from an early version of the script where Shrek and Donkey had a private meeting with Farquaad; in the final film they don't actually have an opportunity to see how short he is.
  • Fellow dragon lover here: you gotta meet Draco from Dragonheart if you haven't already
  • Many people nowadays think the animation looks dated. But they do not realize the look of the movie matches many of the classic 1950 & 1960's illustrated children's books that had that exact look. What they see as "dated" is actually artistic style.
