Join in the story of four recruits as they make their way into the United States Navy through the training pipeline, never before so intimately profiled, of the Navy's Recruit Training Command (RTC) in Great Lakes, Ill. Beginning with their hometowns across the United States, watch the young men and women featured in Making a Sailor walk in the footsteps of millions of Americans before them, stepping off the bus at RTC, beginning their training, learning necessary skills, toughness, and discipline, and moving on towards graduation. Throughout the 6 10-minute episodes, witness firsthand what recruits must both endure and accomplish in order to earn the coveted title, "United States Navy Sailor."

  • Graduated Navy boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL. in March of 1986, Company 027.............coldest Winter of my Life!!! 20 years later, retired a Chief........enjoyed my Career! Good Luck everyone!!

  • I went in 1977..it was like boy scout camp..the best time of my life..worked the flight deck on the USS Saratoga

    i ship out june 20th 24’ , rlly nervous coming in but after seeing this specific documentary it completely shifted my emotions. Truly want to make my family proud and push myself towards success🙌🏽! Will all be worth every bit.

    Division 209 out of Ship 13 at Great Lakes. May 6th to July 7th, 2006. I'll never forget 80 guys going "TWO-ZERO-NINE! HOOYAH! WE CRUUUNK!" We actually said that. LOL :D

  • I went through Marine Boot Camp years ago. This seems less intense but still demanding for sure. Kudos to my sailor brothers and sisters!

    That shock and awe factor is what I'll always remember. The what did I get myself into. Let me tell you that transition from civilian to recruit. Is a process in that of itself. You maybe there for 8 weeks. But it will feel like you've been there for 8 months. Like you've lived your whole entire over there.
