Imagine telling George Washington this would happen in 1776..
  • First time Her Majesty authorised a foreign anthem played outside a state visit. It's why Britain and America are so close. Proud brit. Love our American cousins
  • If you ever need reminding of what kind of monarch the Queen of England was. She broke a 600+ year tradition of allowing her guards to play a foreign country’s anthem outside of a state visit. The Queen stood by our side during our darkest days. Rest in peace your majesty. Sending our sincerest condolences from across the pond.
  • And now that Queen Elizabeth II has passed, the U.S. Capitol buildings are flying the flag at half-mast. It shows the solidarity and friendship between our countries.
  • After 7/7 London bombings, all gov buildings were locked down. In defiance of terror, the US Marine Corp band stood outside the American embassy-despite risk of further possible attacks- and played God Save The Queen
  • I was deeply moved by the way the British people responded on 9/11. I remember British people sobbing in the streets and I will never forget.
  • "At the Queens request".....Wow!! That statement alone tells you all you need to know about her Majesty. A true lady of class she sets a very very high bar. Just knowing what the song is about, and STILL tells them to play it.

She broke 600 yrs of tradition here. For us. Thank you ma’am. We love you for this act of kindness.

They’re straight up playing our anthem which was written based on a battle that we fought and beat them. Straight respect. 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧
  • It’s been 19 years since 9/11 today. Thank you, Britain for being so compassionate in our time of despair. 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸

Almost 21 years ago, the Queen of England was with Americans and the United States on our darkest day (9/11) and honored us by playing the National Anthem in front of Buckingham Palace. Today and for the time being, join me and many other Americans in returning the favor to England and it’s Royal Family. Long live the Queen and we stand together in honoring her legacy. As well as honoring all of the first responders and remembering all of the victims 21 years ago.

My fellow Americans, if you wondered why we should be saddened by the queen passing, then let this be your answer. The queen led Britain into standing with us in our darkest hour.

Amazing to think that Britain played the US Anthem, considering the lyrics are from a poem written during the War of 1812 with Britain.

Someone said that the UK playing the star-spangled banner is akin to a mother singing a lullaby to soothe her hurt child
  • @jerseyboy406
Our anthem was written during the war of 1812 when the US and the UK were fighting each other. That the Queen would respect us enough, knowing what the song was about, says all you need to know about her class, grace, and humanity. God bless her!

“At the request of The Queen, the Coldstream Guards band played The Star Spangled Banner.” My friends, brothers, and neighbors across the ocean, long live The Queen. May she rest in peace.

Hearing the music choked me up; hearing the crowd singing gave me chills. Beautiful moment all around. Thank you, UK.
  • @LordTrayus
Considering that the Star Spangled Banner was written to commemorate a US victory over the British in the War of 1812, it's indeed inspiring to see how far we've come as allies.

Here after hearing the news that the Queen has passed. This was such a beautiful moment and a kind thing to do for her American friends. Rest In Peace your Majesty.

22 years later this is still so incredibly moving as an american.
