PhotoDirector Remove background and Replace with new background

Published 2020-10-28
In this PhotoDirector tutorial, I will remove the background and replace with a new background. Using PhotoDirector's advanced editing tools such as the select area brush combined with the refine edge tool and applying a mask, we are able to cleanly cut out an image from its' background and drop it into a new image.

This is a really good tutorial. When the background is busy it's sometimes hard for the smart brush to know what to pick. I with they would add a more precise way of selecting a subject like the pen tool in PS.

Very well done, thank you so much. I manage to remove the backgound and even the background contamination in the hair of my object in the refine window perfectly with yor instruction. However as soon as I press OK and go back to the selection window, fine parts of the background are back and when applying the mask and delete the selection, there remains a background glow around the hair. I do not understand why it is at first so perfect in the refine tool and then distroyed again in the mask. Do you have any tip? Thanks and regards Adrian
  • Great video, and great timing cuz I was wondering the best method to use for background removal for a family photo I needto edit 👍
  • Yooooooo! Thank You Soooo Very Much! Having Pugalistica Dementia, learning new things is is quite difficult. I am just now at this stage of editing, but couldn't find the help I was seeking. Love your tutorials. I am a version 9 user and have always come to your channel first for guidance when editing with Cyberlink PhD software. Clean up tools have always been cumbersome but your relaxed style makes it easy to follow. Thank you.
  • I am totally new to this program would you b e so kind as to start from the very beginning.
  • Somehow their mobile app is able to select objects it can recognize automatically, for background replacement, not perfect selections every time, but still, I don't know why it isn't in desktop versions.

I am using the latest version of Cyberlink PhotoDirector (v21.0) and under Edit there are no such options! By far the older versions before you sold your tools for the Cloud were superior to what I have paid good money for as a professional publisher.

I don't want to disparage your hardware, but your Mac seems to be struggling a bit. Any thoughts about an upgrade? AMD has released some really powerful CPU's recently, which are incredible value for the money. GPU's as well, announced today as a matter of fact (no I don't work for AMD lol). I'd be willing to bet you could build a PC with twice the power for half the cost of a Mac. Just a thought.

Hi! I have PhotoDirector8 and can't figure out how to get to the layers section. It's probably something simple that I am missing. My screen shows: Library, Adjustment, Edit, Slideshow, Print Thanks!
  • @Epicmango7
Can you please do tutorials on the Guided section? I haven't used it because I don't know what it's for. I just use adjustment and edit
