Do You Need GCPs for Photogrammetry Volumes?

Published 2022-11-11
Recently, a viewer asked for advice on how to calculate volumes without GCPs. Of course it can be done, but what about accuracy? Will you achieve a poor result? Does it matter if you use Agisoft Metashape, Context Capture, Pix4D, DroneDeploy?

Theoretically, so long as you data capture and processing are done well, there should be little difference, as volume calculations are relative to the surface.

In this video we take a look at a volume calculation result, processed in Agisoft Metashape, when we don't use GCPs and when we do. How will the two results compare?

Yooo thank you, great video, straight to the process🤙 so gcp at the end are just an extra, now i can do other stuff finally with the mini 3🚀

Sub'd! Short sweet and more importantly keeping consistency and accuracy in mind 👍👍

Just to make sure, did you use RTK-data when taking the pictures or only drone gps? The video was great, hope you make many more!

Good day @geospatialtips, do you have a video that shows how you to add your GCP's to the processing steps. I see that you mention the difference between processing with and without GCP's. But I can't see a video of you actually adding the GCP's. Can you please advise? From your fellow Saffa mate.
  • I would love to see this experiment repeated in a situation where the ground is not nice and level and the stockpile is bunkered.
