Gia Scott-Heron presents: Black History Mysteries 3rd installment entitled“The Black Unicorn”

Publicado 2022-04-01
Hello 👋🏾
What’s poppin’ G-squad. It’s me, Miss Gia, back again with another video.
This being April 1st, makes it a bittersweet time for me. As many of you know my late father, Gil Scott-Heron, was born on this day in 1949, in Chicago. It is also the first day of National Poetry Month (kinda fitting, since my Dad is considered one of the best poets that ever put pen to paper 😉). So I am a mixed batch of emotions right now, and will be until after Father’s Day. Then the pain of not having him around anymore, eases up a bit. 🥲
Anyway, on to the matter at hand…who authored the poem in this video “The Black Unicorn”?🦄
If you guessed Audre Lorde WITHOUT checking with Google first…then you are CORRECT!

Audre Lorde was born on February 18th, 1934 in New York, NY. She passed away on November 17th, 1992 after losing in her battle with breast cancer 😢. She passed away in the Virgin Islands surrounded by loved ones.
In addition to writing this dope poem with a sweet title (yes I’m biased), this author wrote “A Burst of Light” which revealed in detail, the struggles she endured due to breast cancer. This book was awarded the National Book Award in 1989.
Audre Lorde also wrote novels, including “Zami: A New Spelling of My Name” (1982). Like I said,
this author is definitely worth checking out as her work, much like my father’s, is timeless and engaging.

Sorry for your tragic loss, and happy (late) birthday to both the king and princess!
Absolutely love the amazing things your father did/created and am very happy you are carrying on and preserving the timeless poetic masterpieces of Gil by creating your own pieces.
Can't wait to see more of your work! ♥
  • Happy belated birthdays to the "King" and to the "Princess" respectively, and peace and power to your Aunt LOREANN HANKINSON at her rest. Thanks for the info on Audre Lorde. I hadn't heard of her. I'll check her out. Endeavor to persevere.♥
