She was also in "Fame" the movie. These films were a big influence on me, as a young boy in England at the time. Early Hip Hop and Breakdancing were coming through to the main stream and at the time we were hungry for anything like it. The film had a great message to inspire anyone.

The 80's were indeed a huge decade for dance. Including some very interesting and great, lesser known collaborations like the late great Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov in the film "White Nights". Another 80's quintessential dance song is Lambada by Kaoma!!!

Irene Cara is an actress (I believe the movie "Fame" was her first film.) but she does not act in the movie "Flashdance." She does sing this song plus she co-wrote it. She was also in the original "Sparkle" movie (1976) -- a far better movie than the remake in 2012.
