  • One really underrated use for Scions are turn 3+ 2x5 man drops like paratroopers to sow discord behind lines, do actions, and steal objective, especially if supported by Gaunt's Ghost's that can throw them an order and then fade and come back in next turn. As your opponents screen starts to fail, the threat of multiple 5 man deep strikers that can land and trade 50 points of units for assured VP will force them to have to keep units back protecting their home objective and no man's land objectives, costing them a local board imbalance they they could use to potentially destroy one of your units. It's not always about killing things, it's about winning, which is about scoring consistent VP.

    I actually ran just the other day two 10 mans with a tempestus command squad attached to each starting on the board, with the command rod on the tempestor prime I was able to give them two orders (1 from them and the second from Solar) when they finally decided to emerge from the ruins I hid them in and just unload into the targets on the objectives. I gotta say it was more powerful than I thought it would be 😅

    I started a Scion army in 2014 when their supplement codex came out. The one trick I can say with Scions in the Taurox Prime is the fact that you can add two leaders to the unit, which I do a Primaris Psyker and a Commissar. Having the Honor and duty order has allowed me to steal objectives from someone has gotten me a number of objectives. But the big part of it is the Fire Support ability and the Storm Troopers ability affecting the Psychic Maelstrom - focused witchfire to reroll hit rolls and reroll wounds for the devastating wounds triggering to melt a target.

    I actually run a Scion led Guard army and having four 10 mans, one 5 to attach to a command out of a Taurox plus 2 more command squads to attach for deep strike is amazing I supplement them with a lot of tanks, and bullgryns it’s game changing and an undefeated list

  • I know that they can’t be souped in space marines but I proxy tempestus scions as inquisitorial henchmen because my homebrew successor is The Hellbenders and having models with “hellguns” is just too good to pass up. Plus the models just look cool to me I still lament the loss of the Heavy Intercessor’s hellstorm weapons

    If you want some silly synergy, take the 5 mand command squad with the rod have them lead 5-10 scions, and run it with gaunts ghosts, they can both order after dropping back in and the ghosts will give them that second order while both units order themselves.

    Tempestus Scion Squads can also be joined by two leaders, so they can have a comand squad and an additional leader added to them. Plus the command squad can also be joined by regimental advisors (meh) or an Ogryn Bodyguard. May not be a bad unit to put into reserves and have come on the board later in the game.
  • 14:45 I've found that adding an inquisitor to a scion blob really makes them shine. You get a 3+ Command Point refund, so you could use the Grenades stratagem and get the Command Point back. On top of that, you could give the inquisitor a combi weapon and psychic gifts to do some dev. Wounds (even better when the squad jumps out of a taurox prime). Lastly, the inquisitor gains the regiment keyword when joining the squad, so he can benefit from Take aim! Or First Rank Fire!, Second Rank Fire.

    A combo I like to use is, since Scion squads can have 2 character attached is a 5 man squad with a command squad and a psyker in a Taurox, and a 10 man squad with a 5 man command squad and psyker in the backline ruins with Drill Commander. Staying still, its 5+ crit hits with lethal and sustained, and Psykers give insane damage output and durability for their points both for the taurox squad and the backline squad.

    Had a funny situation where i was up against chaos demons and the opposition had a changling to hold his back objective. I teleported in my 3*5 man units to take him off it, unfortunately they all failed their leadership and couldnt shoot. Made up for it tho with 2/3 9 inch charges and killed him in melee to my delight. I often like to use 3*5 man units deepstriking. Really good at taking enemy home objective, meaning the enemy has to divert forces away to retake it. Actions monkeys also perfect. Great at resupporting a weakened side of the board too. Definitely want to try a big 15 man units for ultimate damage support especially with lethals and sustained fishing for 6s with 2+ hitting and re rollls. Would likely take some extra for the VP support too.

    Honestly they’ve been fun to fill 6 max 10 mans out with, I just swapped my melta to volleys with plasma. Command squad with rod and grand strategist does a lot too
  • I've been using Tempestus Army for 5 years now and their performance is the best ever. I've won 14 out of 15 games through them

    Don't forget because of how the datasheet is for the Tempestus command squad, You can take Both the Standard and the medi-pack on 1 model First you choose to give 1 model the Medipack and gives it a Hell gun + others options, Then you give it the standard as it's not replacing the hell gun it's just being given the standard, Now you have 1 model that has both and the other 3 guys can be given Special weapons.
