Oda said that he always wanted to draw a character with an eyepatch. He said when we see a character with an eyepatch, one piece will be near its end. Eyepatches are mainly attributed to pirates, but do you know who else wore an eyepatch? The Allfather, Odin. The left eye symbolism in the show is already insane.

The comparison of Shanks and Odin got me thinking maybe the parellel exists somewhere else. We know he got that scar on his eye from Blackbeard, so to me it doesn't seem like it was a sacrifice he made. So what if him losing his arm while saving Luffy was that sacrifice? If you want to go even further, you could even say it wasn't an accident, he could've easily dealt with the Sea Beast, but chose to give away his arm for some other gain, just like how Odin gave up his eye for wisdom.

I know it was only briefly mentioned at 20:52, but this really reminded me of something I learned from one of GrandLineReviews recent videos on Blackbeard, on how he was supposed to originally be accompanied by three women. Maybe these women where like the norns? Could be why BB won't stop jammering about "fate" and "destiny" every five seconds...
