TK OCS/HHS "Recreational Worker"

Here we have the person who replaced Hannah from the CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association) program that used to be here. Several months ago that contract was cancelled by the housing provider, OCS/HHS and this is what we got for a replacement. This person is not appropriate for working with a community of vulnerable and ill people. Here in this video we can see that a) she prefers the residents to do her job, b) she has poor listening skills (offering lasagna to residents that specifically asked for more healthy choices), c) makes decisions for the residents without investigation into what they want or need, basing that decision on her feelings about what might happen, and d) she has very little emotional control. She was visibly shaking, because a resident was not speaking to her in a specific way. She claims I was not respectful, but acknowledges that I was not vulgar or calling her names. We did agree that I was angry. Yes, human beings are sometimes angry at being treated unfairly. That is quite normal. If normal human behaviour is so difficult for her to manage, then she should not be choosing to work in a community of people who have mental health challenges, are active in substance misuse and/or have brain deficiencies that do impact mood and emotion regulation. Cashiers are asked to manage much worse than what she experienced here, and are better at it.

  • I just noticed that she swore early on.. Interesting that she feels swearing is appropriate when speaking to clients...because the residents are not allowed to swear as the signs around the property do indicate. The residents are held to a higher standard than the staff are and that is just wrong.
