There were a lot of episodes of a lot of kids shows that left their mark on our memories and Rugrats was no exception. From the monster under the bed to getting sucked down the drain this show had its fair share of moments that shook us all.

Today I want to talk about an episode that slipped passed us as kids. Maybe we were too young to know what was going on or the gravity of what was being discussed but whatever the reason Angelica's worst nightmare stands out as one of the darkest episodes in Rugrats history.

Join me today for the first episode ever of Pop Culture and beyond where we discuss a little bit of everything from music to movies, controversies to conspiracy theories. I wanna take a trip down memory lane and I invite you all to sit back, relax and join me on this adventure.

What’s funny is, there was an episode after Dil and Kimi were introduced where Angelica realizes that she’s the only Rugrat without a sibling and now she wants a sibling
  • I've recently been rewatching the old episodes and yeah this show is so much darker than you would think. First of all the parents have got to be the most incompetent parents I've ever seen. You'd think after like the 5th time Tommy broke out of the playpen Stu would find a way to reinforce the thing, seeing as he's a toy inventor. The kids are constantly left unsupervised, there are 2 episodes where Tommy actually gets kidnapped. Didi spends more time reading about parenting from Lipschitz than actually parenting her kids. Chaz is a nervous wreck and seems like he's so afraid of messing up raising Chuckie that he doesn't actually raise him, this in turn causes Chuckie to be afraid of everything. The Devilles just dump Phil and Lil off at Tommy's house and seem to show no real interest in being parents and the grandpa is constantly falling asleep when he's supposed to be watching the kids. Then there's Angelica. I know she's supposed to be a brat but as an adult I feel sympathy for her. If you really pay attention to her home life both of her parents are inadvertently neglecting her. They are both workaholics and never spend any time with her, they just drop her off with Stu and Didi everyday. They then overcompensate by spoiling her and giving her whatever she wants. In the real world Drew and Charlotte would be setting Angelica up to have some serious emotional issues and struggle later in life because she would expect everything to be handed to her. Additionally she would most likely end up dating guys who would be abusive, emotionally and physically, and have serious attachment issues. All that being said I still love this show.

I dont remember the episode having Angelica's mom going anywhere so I think it would make the most sense that it would be a false pregnancy test. It's funny how both hilarious and terrifying some episodes of Rugrats are: at the exact same time, too
  • I actually knew a girl named Angelica, back in middle school. The kids really hosed her for that, but she was used to it by then and didn’t care. She was actually pretty cool.
  • I think the false pregnancy test theory makes more sense . I mean as a kid how would what ever Charlotte had to do the test work?

I couldn't help but feel bad for Angelica in this episode. Even if she is a bully to Tommy and his friends, that's nothing compared to what she went through in her nightmare. I'd hate to be in her shoes. Plus even if she isn't nice to the babies, she's quite entertaining.

Another great video, babe! 💜 Yeah, Nickelodeon had great toons back in the 90s and so much adult humor and situations are packed in there!

The Episode it's self has given me Nightmares, no wonder why It was the Darkest Episode ever to be shown in Rugrats. And even Angelica's Dream spooked me the most, it was this scene where her suppose baby brother trying to chase her down and eat her. Plus at the end of the episode, the results were taken again and this time Charlotte doesn't have a Son anymore and she got a Miscarriage. My Conclusion to this episode might be that It's some sort of Fake Pregnency Test that was taken.
  • Angelica is a brat, but this episode did give a good insight on what it feels like to be a kid going through a sudden change like a new sibling. Your world is very small at that age and when something like that happens, it feels like your whole world and only life you knew has been put to an end. She didn't know how to deal with these emotions and nobody was there to help her until she opened up and admitted to her dad how she felt.

I loved this show growing up so much. I played the PS1 game so much, the level with the ghosts at night gave me nightmares lol XD
