The United Center owners announced on Tuesday plans for a massive $7 billion major renovation and addition project. If approved, the estimated 10-year project, dubbed The 1901 Project to play off the United Center’s address of 1901 West Madison Street, would completely transform the look and feel around the Near West Side arena.

  • The average American is the foundation of this nation's economy, therefore if their money vanishes, unemployment will rise and the message "You have an unexpected month" will emerge. If you have a lot of student loans that are coming due, that money will run out very soon

I don't see why the city would say no to this proposal. The westside can use some serious investment.

So what’s happens if the Bulls organization wants a new arena 15 to 20 years from now after this project is completed?
  • I don't go to the lakeshore anymore because of lack of parking. I used to like the UC because there is accessible and easy parking. Looks like I'm crossing off Bulls games on my "chicago activities list" now as well. And no, there is no way any public transit promises will become a reality and using public transit to access that area is garbage to begin with if you live in the burbs. It kills the experience.
  • Oh sounds just wonderful, and why doesn't Chicago try hosting the 2028 Olympics...it'll work for sure, and everyone's taxes will go down drastically.
  • @marblox9300
He says 100 million in additional annual tax revenue.??? Does that extra revenue mean they will lower our already high taxes.??? Um, no.!!! What a bunch of liars.

It is an entertainment district...dude who you fooling?
  • @EpicSlug
It's funny, the only reason they built the arena in that location in the 90's was so they could have and control all the parking. Now they want to get rid of it.
  • @bagolbones
NO one with a normal job is going to afford that, the taxpayers who paid for this are going to be priced out for what they funded for :(
  • @v10-ACR-E
Nah wait. They can do renovations to the UC but cant redevelop cabrini-green for about 5B less?
  • @geoff3103
the UC is 30 years old already and will need to be replaced in about 20 years; where will that be built if there are no spaces? What, play in Rosemont for 3 years while the old place gets demolished and rebuilt? This is horrible for the fans.

Paris Olympics cost $8b.. $7b feels a bit expensive
  • @johnfech3985
Private money can do it, not a nickel of tax payer money should go into this bad idea.
  • @Ovargas1821
