EVE Online: What a "Shadow Disconnect" Looks Like

I had this for a while. It's a giant pain in the ass. While fighting Trig response fleets to werpost turrets, in abyssals, you name it. As you said, the only way you know it's happening is when things stop reacting normally. And the only way out is via task manager. The cause in my case was wifi. I switched wifi off completely on my laptop and now use only ethernet. Since then, the problem has mostly gone away. The reason being on wifi seems to cause this, is because the 5GHz band of 802.11AC/AX etc is also used by emergency services, weather radar and police. Wireless gear manufacturers have an agreement with them that they will automatically switch back to the older and slower 2.4GHz 802.11n band when those services are using the 5GHz band. Your laptop then experiences a change in wifi speed, and modern laptops don't see this as a disconnect, but the connection is temporarily disrupted, as Eve, i.e. CCP see this as you disappearing, even though you haven't. So, while you are trying to carry on, the connection is already faltering.
