Wildwood Flower - Guitar Lesson Tutorial - Country Bluegrass Flatpicking

Publicado 2016-05-25
This is a guitar lesson from countryguitaronline.com/

“Wildwood Flower” was first published in 1860 and was later recorded by the Carter Family in 1928 on the Victor label. Maybelle Carter leads a rendition of the song on the 1972 album Will the Circle be Unbroken, and frequently performed the song in concert with Johnny Cash. In this guitar lesson, I’ll teach you a traditional version of Wildwood Flower and then an intermediate version with a ton of cross picking.

The Gear I Use:
Acoustic Guitar Strings - Woodtone Country Series woodtonestrings.com/
Acoustic Guitar - Martin D18 Ambertone Finish, Collings D2H, Atkin D28, Martin D-16GT, Martin D-15
Guitar Pick - BlueChip TP40
Thumb Pick - Dunlop 9003P White Plastic Thumbpicks, Large
Capo - Shub S1 Deluxe

Visit countryguitaronline.com/ to learn a ton of common bluegrass flatpicking guitar licks that you can play at your next bluegrass jam. We’ll break down all guitar lick with tablature and I’ll show you how you can use these licks with the majority of bluegrass songs. Several of these flatpicking licks are in the key of G and they’re designed to help you improvise your guitar solo in bluegrass fiddle tunes like Red Haired Boy, Salt Creek, Gold Rush, Cripple Creek, Cherokee Shuffle, etc.

I thought the first version was nicer. They say less is more. I know bluegrass can be virtuosic, but sometimes that simplicity of melody is endearing. That's no criticism of your playing BTW, you are right to show an easy & intermediate version. Great teacher, much better that Bryan Sutton IMO.

This Lesson & your Site is just what I was looking for. Pure lessons without fancy bells & whistles. Most of my playing is Classical but a hankering for Country/Flatpicking for sure. I appreciate the song histories you give. Glad you're out there!

Nowhere near a country player here but I always appreciated the technical aspects of bluegrass playing. Learning this can only improve one's technique and teach new things. I think this is a beautiful song and I appreciate this video, Merry Christmas!

You are the best guitar teacher I've seen on Youtube. Your presentation is top notch and that slow run through the song with the tablature is soooooooo helpful!!!!
  • @dowaliby1

Thank you so much for this video! My grandpa played this song pretty much every time he picked up his guitar. I’ve never been able to learn it, but I’ve learned it from this video. Thanks again!
  • I really like what you've done with a relatively simple, straightforward song. Sounds great bro.

Thank you for your video's, you explain like no other and your tabulations are fantastic. All the ones I've watched are so well done. No other instructional videos even come close.
