WSF Wenatchee and Salish on the Edmonds - Kingston Route

Published 2023-02-06
This is a pair of vessels unlike any we have seen before. The WA state ferry Wenatchee is in the Jumbo Mark II class. The Jumbo Mark II class of ferries hold 202 cars and are the largest class of ferries in the state's fleet. The Salish is in the Kwa-di-Tabil class of ferries. The KDT class of vessels carry only 64 cars, making them the smallest class in the fleet. These two vessels were paired together in an emergency situation that stemmed from the broken propeller on the Puyallup and both Jumbo class vessels, the Spokane and Walla Walla, being out of service at the same time. The weather on Sunday, January 29 was nothing short of breathtaking, so much so that I could not help but create this timelapse!

Go ahead Washington and take your sweet sweet time giving out those construction contracts on the next Olympics, it's not like we're short on boats at the moment right? haha.
  • I heard there might be a chance to catch the Sealth on the Bainbridge route and the Chimacum on the Bremerton route pretty soon, as the Walla Walla is going in for some quick repairs. Also, what was the deal with the M/V Spokane?? Yesterday, it departed slip 1 at Colman dock as if it was on the Bremerton route, then later in the day I saw it tied up at the extra slip at Bainbridge where the Klickitat and Elwha were put after they were retired. Are they sending it up to ED-KING to replace the Kaleetan?
