Welcome to JAMAICA - one of my favorite countries in the Caribbean. This island is full of life, culture, beaches, and reggae music, and it makes for an excellent vacation destination... However, there's a darker side of Jamaica that exists among the local population. In recent years, the nation has emerged as one of the most dangerous in the Caribbean with gang violence and political turmoil in the slums areas. In this story, I went deep into a dangerous slum called Flankers in Jamaica's second-largest city (Montego Bay) to document street life and see what kind of people live there.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this story - does it change the way you see Jamaica? Let me know in the comments down below!

PS I really love Jamaica! This is my 2nd trip here and when it comes to culture and vibes - there is no better place in the Caribbean. I made this video because I was curious about the real street life, far away from the tourist traps, and I’m really glad I did. Because the people everywhere in this country are amazing!!! 🇯🇲🙏🏼🔥

The people of Jamaica are just full of love and warmth. They honestly seem so down to earth and kind. I need to visit one day, its a must.

I left Jamaica when I was 9 years. I have being back every year since I turned 30. I am now now 46, even bought a house in a gated community. There is no where like Jamaica. No one will not bother you as long as you mind your own business. I’m happy there are other YouTuber showing the good side of Jamaica.
  • Traveled most of the island for two months and never had trouble. Jamaica is a beautiful special place
  • It's great seeing the less travelled paths of Jamaica are just as friendly as anywhere else. I'm visiting soon and thanks to this film and some others I'm sure gonna have a great time.❤

Jamaica is one of my favorite countries I’ve ever visited. I spent 2 weeks there and met some of the kindest people ever. Every person I met had so much GRATITUDE for the life they had, and that has always stuck with me. ❤️

Jamaica is like any other country. There’s good parts and bad parts but 1 things for certain. That island is absolutely BEAUTIFUL 😻 ❤

I love Jamaica. Much love and respect for Jamaican people. Home is where the heart is. I have beautiful memories of my times in Jamaica 🌺
  • as a Trinidadian, thank you for coming to Jamaica once again drew, I've been to Kingston before in 2015 and it has such negative stereotypes, but beyond the narratives of drugs, gang violence, crime and political bribery or manipulation it is far more than that .This is raw, unfiltered content that you rarely receive from any media organisation or youtubers now these days. its undeniable realise that Jamaica has amazing, hospitable, beautiful people., a diverse vibrant culture and jaw-dropping landscapes that really make the island the most lively in all of the Caribbean!🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
  • I feel like these YouTubers are so disrespectful coming into someone’s home/neighborhood, asking invasive questions, then posting “I just went to the slums!”

I'm impressed by Drew's courage and willingness to venture into the Flankers community, an area I, as a fellow Jamaican, wouldn't dare to visit myself! I love how he connects with the locals and shows a genuine interest in their lives, even if it's just for a short time. Drew's passion for his content shines through in his videos, and I'm still in awe that he went solo without his friends - that takes a lot of guts! He's definitely become one of my favorite YouTubers, showcasing versatility and a genuine passion for his work.

I admire that everyone is showing pride in their home, and speaking hope only. Jamaica is a beautiful place; nurture and protect it.
  • If you can be one thing in this world... Be kind! Jamaicans are kind!
  • @swankyspoon
It's been amazing to watch your early films (which were already good) evolve and become so amazing! Love it! You've inspired me to push myself when I travel.
  • @SarasSmile
Thank you Drew for all you do! ✌️🫶🙏

Drew, as a fellow creator and from a journalistic perspective, your ability to tell stories and share places around the world is a creative inspiration over the years for me! I really appreciate your ability to connect with locals and ask poignant hard hitting questions. I loved this video, and I also love Jamaica because its such a beautiful place with incredible people. Your beach access commentary was spot on, as its such a accurate reflection of the issues Jamaica is facing right now, and it had very Anthony Bourdain inspired vibes. I've been really digging your recent stuff, especially the Haiti content, but this is also some of your finest work. Look forward to the next video man.
  • You always find the very best guides. Love the people you met. The poet Wes made my day!
  • @user-lw5jf4co9i
My father was born in Jamaica back in 1923,passed now. I've never been there but it's nice to see someone showing the OTHER side of Jamaica...the people that live there as genuine citizens..and to SHOW just WHY these other people called Criminals is NOT all what Jamaica is about. Thank-you for having some Positive videos about the poor people who endure the injutices of their OWN Government.
  • I love what you do Drew. I understand some of the other opinions… but these videos are very heart warming and great to see from your perspective. Keep up the great work.
