23 years old, sitting in a parking lot in one of the worst downpours to hit the area. I’m thinking about a girl who had left me to moved back to North Carolina because I was stupid, immature, stuborn - take your pick - and this song came on the radio. It was 2 or 3 in the morning and I decided to go after her. Crossed the NC line before I realized I didn’t know exactly where she lived or if I would even be able to find her. No cell phones, no GPS or mapping apps, just paper maps, that i’d stop and try to read. I can’t even say how I finally found her parents home. It was seven o’clock in the morning and I knocked on the door…. It’s been 42 years together and not for one second have I regretted taking the ride. I hear this song and those memories come rushing back. Thank you Ronnie

I may get hate for saying this but this song takes me back to when country music was still good... Not good, GREAT!
  • My dad passed when I was in my 20s. He used to play this and sing his heart out everytime. My wife and I took a Christmas drive from Iowa to North Carolina this past Christmas. As we drove into the heights of the Appalachian mountains it started to sprinkle. I turned on the radio and found this song. Sad precious happy song

This is not just one of my most favorite Ronnie Milsap songs. It’s one of my most favorite songs of all time
  • This song was released in 1980. I remember when it finally made it onto the American Top 40 Billboard chart in the early part of 1981 and Casey Kasem played it on his weekly radio show. It did good on the County Music charts, but it should have shot to Number One on the American Top 40 Billboard charts. Who could not like this song?
  • I still can’t believe Ronnie made this whole road trip visually impaired. That’s why he’s the man.

Ronnie was raised in my home town of Robbinsville NC, and this song is actually about his hometown, The Smokie Mountains is my home too, my dad played and went to school with Ronnie Millsaps he said he remembered when he started to loose his sight at 8yrs old he played the piano in Church on Meadow Branch and I have a tape of him playing in that Church when he was a boy.

I just have to confess that I haven’t heard this song since I was 15 years old back in 1981(lost in time), just found it today, don’t know how I swear(nothing in life is coincidence in my opinion), brought me so many beautiful memories from back then, got me a little bit emotional remembering so many friends and family members that some I haven’t seen, and others I won’t see anymore. spent the whole day singing this song, that even shared it with my wife, she appreciated it. Thank you so much Ronnie for creating such a special and beautiful master piece, and also for touching our lives and hearts so deeply, with this and other beautiful songs. May God bless you always with plenty of good health and a long long life ahead.

There's at least 515 people on this world thst have absolutely no idea what good music is. 515 dislikes, how is that even possible...they must not have any heart or class to them at all. Ronnie was one of the best If not the best country singer of all times. His songs was created in away that made you hear with your heart. This era was the best ever
