Sony ZV-E1 Overheating Tests

The Sony ZV-E1 has sparked quite a conversation over the past week since its release. A lot of good points but also a lot talking about the negatives including the overheating issues.
While a lot of people are talking about it have not even had the camera in their hand, there is a small overheating issue.
If the camera is used how Sony designed it, the camera will not overheat. This camera was NOT designed to be constantly recording but only used in burst recording. Even with professional filming this camera is more than sufficient to do so.
Please take not of certain situations and just be aware of the limitations you may encounter.
Do not forget Sony have multiple other cameras to choose from if you are wanting longer record times and professional work.

  • Don't forget the other cameras you have access to if you need longer record times, FX3, FX30, A7SIII, FX6 etc. Also don't get angry at me. I am just reporting my findings, I don't own the brand Sony. You can take or leave my findings and results :) Sony are always watching, hence why I make such videos to bring certain things to attention.

I think any video centric camera should not overheat. Especially if it cost 2k. You put a ton of work into this and it paid off. Great Job!
  • @RandumbTech
Very few are going to record externally with the ZV-E1. On a hot summer day, this camera would be so frustrating. Still, for $2200, it’s an incredible B/C cam for existing Sony shooters.
  • @_rhapsodist
what's missing from this test is recording internally and externally with a dummy battery, please do that too if you can!
  • @TimBelchamber
Really appreciate the depth of the ZV-E1 content you are putting out.
  • This device is not used in Turkey. Because even a normal day sees 23 degrees on a hot summer day of 40 degrees. Recording time would probably be 5 minutes 😂😂
  • @dekompose
People saying this ain’t a professional camera no duh! You’re very smart.
  • @wakeywarrior
My worry, I’m in a theme park in Florida, it overheats in 15 mins and you can’t get it cooled down to start recording again even in 10 mins. This is at 4k 25- at 4k 60 you’ll probably get 5 mins before you have a hot mess. Many people want to record at 4k 60 so you have the option to slow it later, it’s great to always have the option. On my LUMIX G9 I filmed everything at 60, and often decided to slow footage when I haden’t intended to. Do some 60 tests, I bet it doesn’t last hardly any time.

This feels like the Canon R5 launch conversation all over again.
  • Hi Jason. How about a dummy battery? Will it extend the record time? Btw much appreciate your hard work on sharing useful information with us❤
  • Great tests Jason, it’s important people to know what they’re getting. I’m buying the camera, but I do plan to use it in shorter bursts (plus I live in canada 😂)
  • @teompa
When filming full HD, at a temperature of 30 degrees, does the Sony ZV-E1 camera overheat? Or is the problem only with 4K filming? I can give up 4K, but I may need to film outside when it's over 30 degrees.
  • @romylee4033
Thank you for taking the time to run these tests! Very helpful and useful nuggets of information. Besides vloggers, this camera will be well suited for real estate videos .
  • @Bo_Hazem
Sadly, overheating is a deal breaker to me. But for studio I still think it's a near-perfect camera. Also you can use a dummy battery to massively improve the overheating problem with any camera.
  • @Mavicmedia
I tested my ZV e1 today, i had it in airplane mode, indoor in 19 degrees, and i overheated 24fps 4k in only 13.5 minutes, also i got 7 minutes in 4k 50fps... :/
  • Great work, I know doing all these tests can be a real pain.  The concern for vloggers and non filmmaking content creators this is aimed as is they will probably want to do a podcast or long a-roll recordings as its not second nature to them. This means they might encounter overheating even more than we as professionals would. The other issue is they wouldn't know about the overheating or how to avoid/mitigate it.
  • Wouldn't last in AZ where is going to be 95-100° right now and 100-117° during June thru September
  • @jennifergala
Really good video. Appreciated your effort. Hopefully version 2 of this camera will address the overheating issue. Fx series is the way to go for the moment.
