Kenfig: The Town That Disappeared | Time Team

Published 2020-08-04
The town of Kenfig, built around a natural harbour 800 years ago, appears to have been a thriving commercial success but then it vanished, leaving just a few castle walls to mark its existence. Amazingly, the ruins of the town may still lie buried under the sand dunes that have covered the whole site since. Tony and the team look at the history of the town, how it disappeared and how the Welsh fought Anglo-Saxon settlers.

I absolutely love Francis. He’s so enthusiastic even when the chips are down…He seems very kind, too, and always laughing. He’s a true treasure. ❤️

The banter between Phil and Ian ( the JCB operator) is priceless. Ian has noticed many features that the diggers had not seen. The combination of a brilliant swing shovel operator with an acute observational skillset was underrated addition to Time Teams success.
  • Stewart always finds the details and often the "missing links". He's an Archaeology Hero.
  • Love the new moving cgi they are using now- like showing Tony where he'd be working dropping the steel into the furnaces, cool!- Also, any episode with lots of Phil Harding is a great one, his patience & his humour about things is priceless!! 👍😃🇨🇦☘️⚒️🏺📜🗝️
  • I wish they'd put the correct information in the description - This isn't Kenfig! That said, I absolutely ADORE this show!

I really really like Francis. His enthusiasm is infectious but at the same time he's not so bull headed that he won't admit when he's wrong or lept to the wrong conclusion. and Stuart is so vital to so many of these digs.
  • Like the Gallic Cap Tony. I just love Time Team. Saved my sanity many a time when dealing with teenagers.... an oasis of calm & order. 🌝 I’m always astonished how the landscape changes and how radically, even in a generation. Time Team brings history alive and interesting. They are worth their weight in gold just for that.

I thought I was going to lean about Kenfig, but instead I learn about a iron works on the river Tyne at Newcastle. You may want to revise the title and description, otherwise people might relies that you really are diffed as Baldric.

One of the best yet! I hope that region spends the time and money to clear that area and uncover all they can. Would be nice to visit and learn more about it.

"Steel is a much purer form of iron" What? No it isn't, it's an alloy of iron and carbon. If anything steel is less pure

Too bad its not being restored, it would be nice to see some restoration projects or even build a replica next to the original site.

All they ever really need to do is to ask Stewart what he thinks. He is usually miles ahead of everyone else, usually right and, unfortunately, usually ignored.
  • Wow great and interesting history and more episodes and detailed👍👍
