‘You forget I’m in America’ Has there ever been such a hot comeback in history?
-
"You forget I'm in America...." followed by that look on his face like...DAMN....she got me there...haha. This is sheer brilliance
-
Rita Moreno and George Chakiris never stop looking at/smiling at each other throughout this entire number, even when they're not dancing together...such amazing chemistry.
-
"Everything is free in America...for a small fee in America..." One of the greatest tunes and performances of all time!! Thanks for posting.
-
The fact that Anita can sing a song praising her new home, do a dance that celebrates her heritage, and shit talk her boyfriend, all at the same time, is why she is the absolute queen.
-
Ok so I know that this is the love story between Maria and Tony but can we just appreciate Anita and Bernardo, like they are so funny and they really love each other, they're so beautiful
-
This is brilliant on so many levels: lyrically, whip-smart in dealing racism and hope; choreographically, it's a wonderful treat of energy, enthusiasm and style; and musically, it's just a bloody powerhouse that could stand on its own. What a magical thing! Thank you Mr Sondeheim and Mr Bernstein.
-
RIP to Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the brilliant lyrics.
-
Rita Moreno's sense of humor and facial expressions are the cherry on top of this dance number.
-
Rita Moreno won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy. Only a handful of people have pulled that off. She's a true talent!
-
I think that this song is just a perfect representation of how you can love America while still believing it could be better, and while still celebrating your own culture.
-
I really like the new version, but this will always be my favourite version of America haha, it just feels so alive and looks so iconic. The delivery of “you forget I’m in America” is just sublime 🙌
-
I never knew swinging a dress could look so aggressive.
-
Damn I want all my arguments to end in a synchronized dance scene
-
This song captures the post war dream of the 1950's....perfectly. When I see this I think of the dreams and enthusiasm of my parent's in their youth.
-
I personally like this West side story better than the new one
-
George and Rita's chemistry was on FIRE.
-
Both sides have a point, which is the other genius of the song. The lyrics snap, the beat sizzles, and it's one of the musical's best and most memorable songs for it. It's also a fantastic song-and-dance section, and one reason why Anita is one of the stars of the show.

I'm not a musical guy, but this number is epic. How much rehearsal time must have went into this. Bravo!
