When I was a boy in the 1970’s we would eat at an Italian pizza restaurant in Lutwyche (Brisbane). I cannot remember the name. The atmosphere was always warm, welcoming, and gave the sense of family. The highlight for me was the deep fried calzone, sadly I’ve searched and have never tasted or experienced any calzone or pizza like it since. It would arrive on the plate ballooned up, the excitement to cut through it and reveal the steaming contents of melted cheese, and other ingredients. Most of all when I think of the calzone, I think ham, so there was definitely ham, the rest I cannot remember. That’s my favourite pizza!

Wow. On our first trip to Naples and made the extra walk to get to Carmnella and it was truly worth the walk. Divine. My wife cannot eat gluten and had the insalata with mozzarella and tomatoes and she said it was the best she has had anywhere in Italy.
