It's been four months since the Taliban swept to power in Afghanistan, something they did faster than anyone anticipated. Since August, they have had to make a rapid transition to running the day-to-day business of a struggling state. From Kabul to the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar and the mountainous Wardak province, our team have witnessed the grim reality of Taliban rule. FRANCE 24's senior reporters Catherine Norris Trent and Roméo Langlois bring us this exclusive full-length documentary.

"Here, everyone knows someone killed in an American raid. So the recruitment was easy." We've guaranteed them 60 years of power.
  • @TeamTwiistz
I'd pay to watch a Taliban Cops reality tv show

When they began shaking their heads while saying yes we are treated well, i got chills. Hope it turned out well for them.
  • Selling kids to save the other kids. That made me feel bad for them.
  • @AlohaBiatch
The section at 29:40 and you see the prisoners trying hard to show they mean the opposite of what they say was heartbreaking. .

Selling your kids for money. It doesn't get lower than that. Islam is sickening.
  • @Ste-The-Leo
The prison scene - "they treat us well" - then looks sternly at the camera and shakes his head from side to side...

Follow the language. There are 2 main languages in Afghanistan - Pashto and Persian (Dari). whenever you hear complains in the documentary - their main language is Persian. whoever praises Taliban - they speak Pashtu. This is what missing in this documentary. To understand the conflict, you need to go back in history and understand how these 2 factions came to be. My father is Pashtun and tells me all the stories about the reality of the situation which is absent in almost all documentaries available to date... in short, these 2 factions will never see a mutual ground until one control's the other.

I feel so saddened for so many ordinary Afganistanian people who don't want any outside help from anyone , those who can only want to live and bring up their family's they don't want anyone telling them what to do and how to pray and live .
  • The first guy in the mountains speaks in Arabic, then the others in Dari/Farsi or Pashto (I can't understand it). Excellent reporting.
  • @qaisersyed110
Every critic / ex-employee speaks Farsi or Dari. Almost every person praising Taliban is speaking Pashto. Interesting.

Yeah, I was in tears at 4:40. But, that....that is not an act. That is a young girl's crying heart in her eyes. Omg, look how she acts in front of the men that she is strong. That broke me, instantly. Nobody is going to help this "Islamic emirate" if they don't allow basic human rights to women. Sad, but it is the truth.

France 24, thanks for this report.
  • 30:00 Whether they are actual criminals or not, can't help but feel bad about the guy shaking his head slightly while saying how they are treated well. Nobody is going to talk badly about the Taliban when the Taliban are there with them. These people are probably hoping for leniency by doing this and I doubt they receive any.

"We are treated well" while shaking his head, the mouth says one thing, while the body never lies. How ever they aren't really going to say anything bad with the Taliban standing right behind the camera.
