I got the mod that gives auto +5 skills. I played the leveling minigame in Morrowind, but it took half my play time logging exactly what leveled up. I kept a log book to make sure I got +5 in two skills every level up and leveled luck every time. I know I can do it without a mod so have no problem using a mod to save myself the book keeping.

Destruction is hilariously OP in Oblivion thanks to the Weakness to Magicka Spell and Weakness to Element Spell (Fire, Frost, or Shock your choice). This combo is extremely quick and cheap to cast while only requiring 50 Destruction. 1) Cast Weakness to Magic 100% on touch for 7 Seconds. 2) Cast it again because Weakness to Magic stacks with itself one time for some complicated game mechanics reasons I don't understand. 3) Cast Weakness to Fire (Frost or Shock if you prefer) 100% on touch for 7 seconds. 4) Cast 10 Fire damage for 10 seconds on touch (Frost or Shock if you prefer). This combo will kill almost every enemy so quickly that you don't even need to worry about taking much damage. As your Destruction skill levels up, you can create AoE versions of these spells by adding 10 or 15ft to kill multiple enemies at once if you want. Another fun combo is 1) 100% Weakness to Magic for 7 seconds on Touch. 2) Cast it again. 3) Drain Health 100pts for 1 second on Touch. This will insta-kill most non boss enemies in the game.

Pure mage is by far the strongest class in the game. You can be anything. With the fortify attributes/ skills spells you can become anything. The best mage/ athlete/acrobat/archer/thief/warrior. Spellcrafting is absurdly strong. When you are a mage you should prioritize on mastering restoration. After that the whole game is a cake walk.

Mysticism is an S+ tier skill - spell absorption + telekinesis gives you infinite mana - you just put a telekinesis effect into each of your spell, so that its cost is 20% of the total magicka you are going to spend(the exact conversion rate depends of the mysticism level - 1 to 5 is for the maxed out skill) and destroy everything with lgt dmg+lgt weakness+magic weakness+telekinesis spell. 3 casts of that is enough for any target and you don't even have to bother with the welkynd stones
  • Speechcraft is the best skill in the game. It does nothing, and cannot be raised accidentally, except by the odd skill book. It is even tied to a useless attribute, meaning there is literally zero reason to raise it. However, the skill also increases reasonably quickly, and can be raised at any time, if desired. It's the perfect Major skill that every character should take. If I could make a character with 6 instances of Speechcraft, and one instance of Athletics, I would.
  • Hand to Hand has its niche on high difficulties. Does fatigue damage as well as health damage which makes it good for the earlier parts of the game before you can break everything with spellcrafting and enchanting. Plus no worrying about weapon condition means the thousand extra hits every enemy takes to die has no actual drawback for you. That all being said though high difficulty oblivion is doodoo garbage and I would never recommend it outside of a masochistic challenge run.

Is the mace of the crusader bad? I've never used a blunt build bc I'm a sword fanboy. Also alteration is the easiest skill in the game to level up. Just cast open very easy lock on a door for 15-25 minutes depending on specialization and you'll be level 100

Alchemy is the best skill, like in every Elder scrolls games. You can make potions of Fortify Magicka and Fortify attribute (like intelligence) to temporary boost your mana pool with a mage (best way to cast the most expensive spells: if you make potions of Fortify Magicka with different attributes, you can stack many Fortify Magicka...), or you can make poisons with multiple effects (up to 6) to one-shot kill everything with the worst weapon and the worst combat skill. Archery + sneak + poisons= best assassin. Potions can do everything you want, fortify attributes, resist/absorb/repel everything you want, add fire/frost/shock to any weapon or arrow (it bypass any magic resistance)... This is Illusion/Alteration/Restoration/Mysticism/Destruction combined in one skill and it's quicker to drink a potion than cast spells. For the leveling speed, major skill+specialization> major skill without specialization > minor skill with specialization> minor skill without specialization. If you always take blade in major skill, of course the leveling is quicker than other weapons in minor skills... If you're a melee character, use the type of weapon you like (blade or blunt) and raise the Hand to Hand too because you can be disarmed by opponents and some creatures are immune to non-enchanted, non-poisoned weapons but not to HtH at 50. HtH damage fatigue too... HtH is not the best weapon but it can be life-saving. Block with a shield is great when at 75: damage is reduced by 75% (capped). With good armor (85% capped), you take barely any physical damage. And there is awesome shields in the game. Shields are also great for an unarmored mage because they doesn't hurt magic efficiency and don't need armor skill. A bound shield is perfect if you don't want encumbrance. Block is by far my favorite endurance skill. Armorer is... not that good. You can pay to repair so it's totally optional. A lot of builds have absolutely no use of armorer, it's useful for melee character. Same for Conjuration. It's fun but this is a roleplay skill. For efficient leveling, I personally avoid Armorer, Athletics, Security, Mercantile in major skills. I use these skills all along my adventure, so it's difficult to control their leveling. Usually, I buy Athletics training every level even if I don't want the +5 speed. For security, if you really want to level it, don't get the nocturnal key, buy/find (duplicate) a ton of lockpick, and just spam auto-resolve on Hard/Very Hard Lock. For Mercantile, buy/find (duplicate) a ton of arrows and sell it one by one. There is a mod for selling one by one with ctrl-click on PC. And for armorer, just use a custom spell of disintegrate armor (Destruction Magic) on self.

i disagree with the placement of marksman just because you have a weird setup for it. i would argue marksman is better than blade since kiting enemies is extremely easily
