I remember my mother telling me how she saw ships burning off in the distance and oil covered dead bodies on the beaches during these troubled times. She and her brother had nightmares about this. My grandfather taught navigation to navy officers and my uncle enlisted at the end of the war. He was too young to make combat. My mom rolled bandages for the red cross and they had a "Victory Garden". My dad was too young but wished he was old enough to enlist. He did end up doing OCS in time for Korea, but contracted type I diabetes and was medically discharged.. Probably saved his life!

Percy Harrison Fawcett, of Anglo-Scandinavian heritage, his family held on, even through 1066 and beyond (Norman Conquest). I bet PHF was of Norwegian heritage, just a strong hunch...
