For about 20 years now I’ve used old cassette tapes ( in their cases) and then wrapped with electrical tape …then I put Velcro on the top/bottom to attach it to the board… works quite well as a riser… it’s just enough space to clear jacks and make room. 🤣

Just wanted to thank you Mason for all the tips and recommendations on pedal building and getting the best results, Thanks to spending almost a year and a half in lockdown and turning my focus back to music to get through it all, I defiantly went Pedal crazy and made it a major project to build my ideal Pedal-board, your live shows have provided so much help in doing a pro job!
  • @MrSpeed-lt8gr
Thank you for your tips, Mason. It’s unreal how much pedals and pedalboards have evolved since my plywood pedalboard that I spray painted black and covered in Velcro back in 1998 🤣😂
  • @rbroderick
Great info 👍 Looking at building a pedalboard to electrify my sax.
  • This Channel is a fountain of knowledge about pedalboards. Thank You for letting me take part in Your enormous experience in building pedalboards. Helps me a lot!
  • @hummarstraful
That is a LOT of information packed into a 15 min video. This channel is a must-subscribe for guitarists. I keep coming back again and again for the best pedal info anywhere.
  • @TheJD616
This was exactly the info I was looking for! I kept running into the “use fewer pedals” advice. The individual pedal risers will be a game changer for me. Thanks!
  • After the first rehearsal with my new band a few weeks ago, I decided to switch my big homeboard to a Pedaltrain Nano+. It was too heavy(over 12 pounds/6kg!), too big and too many pedals I didn’t need. For my band I only use a tuner, a distortion and OD, a fuzz and a reverb/delay. My tip is to start with the smallest board you can get away with. Secondly, decide the minimum of pedals you really need and USE. Thirdly, get pedals that can do multiple things. For me, I use reverb and sometimes delay, so instead of using seperate pedals I use the Boss RV-6 which can do reverb+delay. It made me really understand how to use these effects once I was limited. With the Nano+ I use a Cioks DC5 so I have 5 outputs for 5 pedals or 6 pedals if I daisy chain two pedals. I have 3 drive pedals, a TS Mini, a Mooer Black Secret and an EQD Cloven Hoof. The first two are daisy chained as they only draw 10-20mA. The output that remains free is my wildcard slot. Sometimes I add a POG2 (yes it fits although sideways) or a chorus or even an additional drive pedal. My tuner is a Polytune Mini. Although I hate mini pedals because of my shoe size, it‘s the best way to go to save space and weight. The best thing is, I can just grab my board (it weighs just 2.5kg) and my guitar and take public transport to our rehearsal space AND I still have every pedal I really need for my sound/band. I don‘t regret my decision of downsizing at all.
  • @TheClicheGaming
for someone who is pretty much the authority on pedal building your channel took me way too long to find! thanks for the tips.
  • @flyguyty33
Great video! I build my own pedalboards out of wood and have them a few inches higher at the top to hide power supplies and cables underneath the board. Also drill holes on top of the board to run cables and power source to look clean.
  • @zealfer
Hi Mason, I just want to say thank you. I am now enjoying my pedalboard because of the tips you've shown here. I've built my own compact pedalboard and it works so well!
  • @joshbaker5403
Just starting my first bass pedal board. This video really helps. Thanks
  • I feel like smaller boards are definitely coming back in popularity for sure
  • Well done. All your content has been very informative and entertaining this past year but this one gets an extra plus on the "A" because of how concise and tight the points were ... matches the pedalboard.
