Publicado 2023-10-03
Sam Bankman-Fried, the fallen golden boy of crypto, is going on trial for what prosecutors are calling the largest financial fraud in recent history.

David Yaffe-Bellany, a technology reporter for The Times, explains the case of the man who was supposed to save the cryptocurrency industry and what its outcome could tell us about why he did not.

Guest: David Yaffe-Bellany (www.nytimes.com/by/david-yaffe-bellany), a technology reporter for The New York Times.

Background reading:

• A year ago, Sam Bankman-Fried was a fixture on magazine covers and in the halls of Congress. Now he’s fighting federal charges of fraud and money laundering. (www.nytimes.com/2023/10/02/technology/ftx-sam-bank…)
• Crypto insiders are trying to distance themselves (www.nytimes.com/2023/10/02/technology/crypto-insid…) from Mr. Bankman-Fried by zealously seeking to hold him to account.

SBF was never considered a "saviour" of crypto. He was a weird character that pretended to be an amazing trader but nothing made much sense. The theory was he was betting against us and that some of what he was doing was probably shady. I don't know that many had any inkling how shady he was, nor how incompetent he and his team were. He hid his incompetence behind arrogance.

no expert here but I always wondered how come people who reject normal money for being fiat and unbacked by gold put all their money on a currency made of bytes made by a guy in Bahamas.

great video, thanks a lot. this is the first one i've seen that confirms that mr bankman-fried actually did give some money to charitable causes, though apparently it wasn't his own money he was being philanthropic with.

Mrs Victoria have been the key to my successful trading life and couple of my friends who also trade with her. I make about $23k every month by only trading the crypto Market.
