  • My father passed away a few years ago. Cleaning out his stuff I opened his lock box expecting to find money or tax documents but the only thing inside was the maps of dungeons we drew by hand over 30 years ago playing the original Final Fantasy. The only thing he cared about losing was his memories of that time in our lives.
  • I still remember waking up one night as a kid and seeing my dad playing FFVI on our SNES, it was late and cold, but I took a blanket and sat by my dad's side, he explained the story for me and even made voices for the dialogues... since then, my father and I still remember that with joy and happiness
  • 36 year old man here. This video hits me in the feels simply because it reminds me of the best memories from my childhood. My mom (who passed recently due to cancer) knew how much I loved FF (from #3 onwards), and always made sure I had the new copy of the game. She would even watch me play most of them up until 9 or 10, and loved them herself. No other memory in my in life is more comforting than the ones where I would wake up at the crack of dawn on a weekend and play FF all morning in living room. Making a comfy a bed in front of the TV out of the couch cushions God damn. Life was so much sweeter back then...
  • over a decade ago, I watched this entire series on their old website and instantly fell in love with the series and jrpgs as a whole. this retrospective changed my whole gaming lifestyle and I couldn't be more thankful <3

To this day I still come back to this retrospective. It’s so good. Possibly the best Gametrailers had ever done.

  • It's so weird coming back to this vid and hearing him talking about an 'upcoming PSP port'. I had them both when they dropped and that feels like a lifetime ago. This video honestly aged like 🍷 imo
  • It is sad to see GT go.  I loved these retrospectives (it was my favorite show out of all of them) and throughout all these years it was the website for me to go for videos.  RIP GameTrailers.  You will always be a part of my childhood.
  • This was the best piece of content to ever come out by Gametrailers. Glad someone saved and uploaded it here.
  • “Sometime in 2007” brooo, what the fuck. This was released in 2007. Wow. Incredible.
  • @1:02:43 FF7: "Many fans mistook it, and still do, as a trailer for a forthcoming rebirth of the playstation classic." And here we are. :)
  • I like how in FF8, when Squall finishes the tutorial, he is the most capable military leader in the world.
  • @flewis02
It's amazing how in depth this is without really spoiling each game much...
  • @neoblaze_
The clip/music selection, timing and editing in these episodes are fantastic. They really put in the work to respect the games they're talking about.
  • @youngjdef
Man...is there anything more nostalgic than the music at 37:45 ??? I doubt it. That strumming guitar leadup... then the flute just sets the tone so perfectly. absolute masterpiece

@ 8:23 “and last month, the PlayStation Portable”. The PSP version came out on June 26, 2007… damn that’s a long time ago. I’m still remembering how much freedom I felt playing this on that very summer, my first open-world RPG, my literal first Final Fantasy video game that I played from beginning to end. That’s how I spent my entire summer since I didn’t have money to travel anywhere outside of town, I had just finished my high school sophomore year, and I don’t regret spending it that way. It was such a liberating, transcendental experience.
  • Thank you for archiving this, friend <3 far too many of their videos are lost to time. It's a shame people won't get to see so much of the hard work the old Gametrailers team put into Retrospective, Pop Fiction, and other videos. Even just their Let's Plays alone were classics because of how much they truly loved games.
