A Langley, B.C. family wants justice after they say their family pet was mauled to death by an allegedly off-leash dog whose owner fled in the aftermath.

A.J. Tay, his wife and their children were on an outing to Second Beach with their dogs, including their multipoo named Sky.

Tay was taking a work call when he heard his wife and children screaming behind him.

When he turned around, he saw Sky clenched in the jaw of a much larger dog.

Angela Jung has more.

Off leash? Incredibly irresponsible. The dog could easily have attacked a child.

I am so sick and tired of people walking their dogs without a leash & then say "my dog is friendly" or it's "just a puppy". Keep your dogs on a leash unless it's a dog park etc!

This is unacceptable. If your dog can maul up a puppy it can maul up a kid

The unspoken truth is that some people are simply too stupid to own a dog but there is no law that says really stupid people can't own dogs. There should be.

I can't stand the arrogance of people who choose to walk with their dogs off-leash. Or have them run around in a park where they need to be leashed up. If you want them to run around, take them to a dog park.
  • There is no reasoning with these types of dog owners. This woman running away is clearly sick.

The owner should be charged 100%. 5 years in jail. Needs to set a precedent. The only time a dog should be off a leash is at an actual dog park or backyard. The fact she runs away too is messed

That could have easily been a toddler smh ppl are so irresponsible with dogs. Put your dog on a leash.

what sort of animal brings out a dog to a public place and doesn't have control of it on a leash?

Owners need to be charged with their dog's crimes. After a few people get sentenced to years in prison, leash laws will suddenly not be something to ignore.

The fact she ran away speaks volumes about her character.

Imagine if that dog attacked a baby or a toddler instead. That lady is dangerously irresponsible.
  • PLEASE READ THIS IN CASE IT HAPPENS TO YOUR DOG - A huge dog grabbed my brother's tiny chi in his mouth. Her whole body was in his mouth. I punched him in the jaw on the side (where the jaw hinges). His mouth dropped open, and I grabbed her out of it. I'm a 110 lb. disabled, older woman and this worked. I want people to know so they can use it too. I don't know how I came up with it, I just did out of panic. It caused permanent damage to my thumb as he bit down again while I was pulling her out, and hurt my wrist, but it was worth it. The vet was able to fix her up. I feel so sorry for this poor family and their furbaby.
  • Was attacked by dogs that got out of their yard while I walking my puppy. I jumped up on the nearest parked car with my dog in hand. The owner of the dogs yelled at me to get off his car. No way, secure your dangerous dogs first. They were 3 pit bulls.

This is my worst nightmare. I am so sorry for the owner and his loss.
