Cheerson CX20 FPV Setup Part 1

Publicado 2015-02-15
I have had many requests asking how I set up the Gimbal and FPV on the Cheerson CX20, finally I put together a demo.

The Gimbal is the plastic version of the Walkera G2D from Banggood for less than £50 ( www.banggood.com/Walkera-G-2D-Camera-Gimbal-for-iL… )

The FPV Transmitter is the Skyzone TS5823 5.8Ghz 32 channel transmitter, I got it from Ebay, but hobbyking have them for £16.50 (hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__63114__skyzone_ts5… )

One thing I didn't mention is using 2 rubber bands to hold the GoPro onto the Gimbal, the original comes with a (rubbish) plastic clip!

Have fun!

Hi Charles Phillips I liked your video is simple and straightforward. I just wonder if you have any other videos about how to install gimbal for cheerson CX20. If you dont have one would it be possible to upload one please. it seems to be not lots help on youtube about gimbal installation some of them are not showing exactly the proper way Gimbal installation For CX20. many thanks.

Cool video, I use the metal version of the G-2D. Gonna have to take a look at those legs myself though, I catch my CX-20 instead of landing cause I don't want to damage the gimbal/camera myself, and I tend to dig a tiny hole when possible for lift-off.

Can you please make a video on how to set up your camera gimbal because I can't find one video on how it set it up because that would definitely help a lot of people out. Thank you

Don't forget to mention the costly effect of powering up a video transmitter without the antenna installed.

I just bought a cx-20 and sj4000 camera. I'm probably going to get a g-2d plastic version gimbal for my camera for smoother video. I'm new to quads of this size, the ones I had before could fit in your palm. I'm looking at getting this fpv setup and upgrading the antennas to clover leafs and that high gain directional square antenna if I do it. Just have a few questions. First, when it comes to the gimbal and sj4000 with the fpv setup can you use both 5v plugs so one powers the sj4000 and the other the gimbal? I'll probably charge the batteries on my sj4000 but it would be nice if it could power up both fpv and gimbal so you don't have to worry about the camera battery if you switch to only fpv use. Also, how is the range with the high gain directional and clover type antennas? I know antennas vary as does the interference where you are flying but should it be good enough for keeping a strong enough fpv signal for a stock cx-20 and stock controller's flight range? If this setup works but has issues with stock cx-20 range or reliability I may be better off recording. FPV is the only reason why I'd want to upgrade my quad in the future and just want to see if you think this setup of fpv is stable and a great beginner setup for me. Great videos by the way. Way better than the one from aliexpress where things were already plugged in and you couldn't fully see how the sj4000 was connected.
  • Hi, nice video! If you have a powered gimbal, and want to add fpv, how do you power it without using another battery? Seems like there's no more room for that. Or should you combine cables?

Hello Charles....thanks for your informative videos. I just wanted to ask a question or two. I'm new to all this and I've recently got my CX20 Open Source quad. Now I ordered a G-2D after seeing your clips but not yet received. I watch lots of Youtube videos about people complaining that their G-2D does not work properly. Then people start suggesting "you don't need the 12v, just attach the 5v tilt wire, etc..." It's all too frustrating to hear these complaints and I know that the Chinese instructions might be rubbish. So, you attach the 12v (red wire inside) and the two other 5v (Aux1 and 2) red on inside as well.....and you're done. Do the plugs supplied on the G-2D fit the cx20? Also you shared the same 12v port for gimbal and tx, right? Thanks and regards George (Malta)

Hi Charles have you altered you pids when using your full set up at all

Dear Charles, I also ordered the Walkera G 2D, I saw that it needs some cables/adapters... any chance you could post some links for those cables as long as some pictures showing where they have to be connected? No telemetry / FPV, just connecting the gimbal... I guess when I achieve that I can order the antennas as in this tutorial ;) Thx in advance!
  • @desolatestates
Hello great vid thanks quick question where did you get the longer landing gear
  • @firepol80
Hi Charles, I'd like to buy the Walkera G2D gimbal and use if my GoPro. I was wondering if I can also use the same gimbal also with a Mobius? What can be problematic?
  • @gingemckay
Any chance I could pay you to build one of thease for me I've have had so many problems with mine
  • @EddieMurdock
is there an 'all in one' kit that is compatible with gopro3?
  • @davesanderson703
I'm wanting long landing legs so the gimbal is free could. you help
  • @useri100
Hi nice video, where have you bougth  your landing gear?
  • @crackerjackxxxx
I have the same gimbal, the 1 problem i find is that the transmitter pots are way too sensitive. Have you found a way to turn down the sensitivity if you think of the pot as a clock face i get full gimbal movement in the space of 5min so to speak.
