  • Welcome to the G-Shock world, Bruce! I have the positive LCD version of this watch and think it's great. I can say as the owner of a dozen other G-Shocks of various shapes, sizes, and colors, that you are warned: this is a very slippery slope for a watch enthusiast. Before you know it, they multiply in the collection like tribbles. Unless one gets the newest technology STN LCDs, the negative readout (gray numbers on a black background), the digits can be difficult to see in various lighting conditions and anyone considering one should understand these limitations. The positive LCDs (black numbers on a gray background) have much greater legibility. My only knock on the 5610 is that the buttons can be a little tough to push and generally need to be done with the tip of one's fingernail. Also, the tone of the alarm is quite faint on all solar-powered G-Shocks so anyone intending to use this as an alarm to wake them up in the morning needs to be a light sleeper. My original G-Shock, a DW-9400, has been going strong for 19 years and I still wear it several times a week. I know many traditional watch aficionados tend to look down at these watches as throw-away fashion pieces owing to their popularity with teenagers, but the Casio G-Shock has a well-earned place in the pantheon of horological achievement.
  • Just a grown up F-91W which does most 99% of what people need in a watch. Add solar, atomic time and 200mtr WR together with indestructibility and you end up with your G Shock !!! Great video Bruce.
  • For those that don't know, holding down the light button more than 3 seconds will turn on/off the autolight function. With it on(indicator over seconds) when you're in a dark/low light environment, raising your wrist up to look at the time, the electro luminescence light will automatically come on for 1.5 seconds. It's a small but very unique feature that I love :)

Ive had mine now for about 2.5 years....worn daily. I do physical work and travel quite a bit, its a beast and lives on my left arm.
  • I've got the standard version, love that it shows the day and month, which I couldn't live without, and that it keeps perfect time on account of daily long wave radio time synchronisation. The really cool thing though is that it's totally maintenance free, and just gets on with what it's supposed to be doing without any user input at all; I almost never have to press any of the buttons or make any sort of adjustment to the thing, and the power reserve indicator has never moved from the high position since I've been using it. A couple of months ago, if I remember correctly, I used the back-light function and so pressed that button......
  • I am with you except for the negative display. I am definitely ready to pick up one with the positive display. It seems perfect for any active situation! Great review! The auto backlight is another great function. When turned on, the backlight comes on any time the wrist is turned if the environment is a low light situation. If battery operated, I would not want this function. Since the solar power is so efficient at keeping the watch charged, I love it.
  • The watch is cool but the nature shots were even better! Great video!
  • @WatchGeek
Great review of a great watch, I prefer positive displays as they are easier to read. I have been wearing a DW5000SL for the last 6 years along my mechanicals, and just ordered the GW-S5600, basically your watch with carbon fiber strap and all the SS parts replaced by titanium which makes it the lightest G shock ever made at only 47g
  • Good choice. I have a modern Rolex Milgauss, Oris, Tissot's, Seiko's and several high end G Shocks, namely the frogman and rangeman. But, I have this watch as well, the standard solar version and it's my favorite G Shock out of all my G Shocks. The rangeman I wear snowboarding and the frogman is more just because I think it was great looking, but the GW is so comfy and classic looking. Everyone should have one.

I’ve had this watch for about 6 months and love it. I’ve got the positive display coming in about 2 days. Bit stupid buying the same watch twice but I really wanted this increased legibility.
  • I have this watch with the positive display because I'm getting older and as cool as the stealth looks, I want the legibility. When I first got it I wasn't excited about the 80's looks. But the thing works so good, is so comfortable, the retro look starts growing on you like crazy. This is my everyday beater watch and I end up wearing over other nice looking watches to less casual events, just because its so light and I just love it that much! Good review, btw, and awesome scenery!
  • I bought the classic DW5600E ten months ago inspired by a Mat Stevens video. Love it as a beater, and it's gained only 5 seconds in that ten months. 1/2 second off per month - not bad. Less than $50.
  • Its been 4 yrs now since this video. Have u stop getting impressed ..?🤣 I am still...for 35yrs n going. They never stop impressing me. Got 20+ of em in my vault. Used to be 50+...had to let go most of em during this pamdemic. I can say g-shock saved me n my family these 2yrs.😂😂😂
  • @T.Q.
I have the Apple Watch 6 and I miss having a G-shock. This thing is just a fancy fitness tracker. The rugged yet stylish simplicity of the G-Shock is the best. You can go subtle or loud with your colours too.
  • No one beats the Japanese with watches! I love my G-Shock. Greatest value for the money. And that makes a man love the watch. Value and dependability.
  • @Freeroler
Glad you liked them, G-Shocks are perfect beater watches than can take any damage. One small note, actually you may have to replace the battery in the future. It is rechargeable, but it's not eternal by any means. Usually they last about 10 to 15 years in solar G-Shocks.
  • Wanted a countdown timer for some sailboat racing. (Gotta cross that start line at the right time.) Casio makes watches that will do that in the $15 dollar range. But, hey, the cheap square is only $40 and I know it will also take the beating sailing can dish out. So I bought it, as a simple tool, and instantly joined the cult of G-shock. Pure 80's Swagger. Now I'm lusting after the GW-m5610bc-1jf. That combi bracelet looks even more comfy.
  • as someone who has had alot of g shocks i have to say they are amazing! the only thing you should not do with them is swim in a pool with chlorine with them. the watch gets ruined with chlorine. besides that, toughest watch ever.
  • I will get my first g shock in the next 2 weeks from now (my engagement day). my fiancé got a nice engagement ring but what about me? an amazing g shock DW-5600-BB
