The US declassified its nuclear stockpile data, revealing 3,748 active and inactive warheads as of September 2023, slightly down from 2020. Despite dismantling 12,088 warheads since 1994, about 2,000 retired warheads await dismantlement. The US and Russia, with the largest arsenals, are committed to the New START treaty, but global nuclear tensions persist due to conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
