2 Railroad Tunnels & 2 Trains! Norfolk Southern Led Train Appears Out Of CSX Tunnel Next To Abandoned Railroad Tunnel! See How High Rail Trucks Get Off Of Railroad Crossings. These trains are in Kentucky at Lambs Ferry Tunnels near Ryland, Kentucky on the old L&N line that runs between Cincinnati Queens Gate Yard and Corbin, Kentucky. Railroad maintenance of way equipment was near here and I saw several high rail trucks pass. I found out that northbound and southbound freight trains were coming so I decided to watch them appear and disappear into the railroad tunnel. One of the tunnels is out of service and hasn't seen a train in a long time. We see the rusty rails up close. I was here last year and the same track was very rusty and the tunnel out of service at that time. I have no idea why they don't use the tunnel anymore. Please leave a comment if you know. I do know that this line doesn't have the volume of trains that it use to have. First we see the high rail truck raise the wheels and exit the track at the railroad crossing. Then we see a CSX ethanol train come out of the tunnel being led by Norfolk Southern locomotives. That was cool! You don't normally see Norfolk Southern locomotives leading trains on this line. Then a short time later a CSX manifest goes through the tunnel on its way north to Queens Gate Yard. That train was pretty interesting because it had empty continuous welded rail ( CWR ) cars hooked on the rear of the train. I have seen quite a few CWR trains in the past year in Kentucky and Ohio. Trains on this line use the old L&N road channel of 161.370 to call out the signals. 452.9375 is advised for EOT.
Update: Shortly after I filmed this the rusty track on the right side, the eastern most track, was removed. The track was left inside the tunnel but the rest of Main 2 was pulled up. I found out by a commenter that the tunnel on the west side was built in 1853 and the tunnel on the east side, the right side, was built in 1912.
This video was filmed in 4K , June 2022.
Don't forget about Chessie and Norfie at the end of the video and please leave a comment!
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

I just looked these tunnels up.The west tunnel was built in 1853 and the east tunnel was built in 1912.

I’m a train conductor. And did you know you can’t stop in the tunnel or blow the horn in it. They can really only stop in a tunnel durning an emergency and even then the engines have to be out of it.

The truck with the auto lifting track wheels was awesome, great catch.
  • Great excellent video, mr Jaw Tooth. The highrailtruck is something in the Netherlands do not no. Inspection of the railroad is operated by a measeringtrain. By ProRail the owner of the spurs in the Netherlands give this train the name Jules. But what you have in the U.S.A. is also going on in the Netherlands. Long, very l ook nog rolled rails for new spurs and maintenance. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.

Great catch - keep the cold beverage ( non-alcoholic kind ) handy on these summer days, and the bug repellant too !
  • @tobinsoohoo4389
That is so cool with the tunnel shot. First engine was so clean and shiny, looking very new along with so many tank cars shiny and graffiti-free! So great to see that too. Great job!

Hi-Rail trucks look like tons of fun to drive!
  • @train1962
Good to see you catch a couple of trains on my favorite rail line. Thanks Brian.

Now that's a match up 2NS engines and a CSX must be something to do with the tunnels very cool video jaw tooth
  • @Lordan1000
The train coming through the tunnel like that reminds me of the Sunday cartoons I watched as a kid!
  • @mikedurhan9941
Yep, as the others have said, that out of service tunnel isn't tall enough for modern freights to pass through consistently. At least that's the way it looks in the video. Now......... go cool off with a nice shower bath. I think that cute little cat loves her "Daddy". Thanks for another good one.
