It’s important to go to welding school but it is more important to learn how to weld. It doesn’t matter what you do just practice and keep practicing. Nobody can hold your hand. It’s up to you. American Welding Society! Welding schools!

Here is another trick - that I use everyday I do mostly woodworking and some welding so this trick works for both. Get a 1" flat niobium magnet and a washer (or a thin sheet metal cut to shape) and put the magnet on the inside of your shirt, with the washer on the outside. You have magnetized the washer. Strongest you can buy works best. That means that you can just slap your soap stone/pencil (wood or plastic but with metal clip) to it, take it off mark whatever and slap it back on. You can tell how high/location you need to have it by the number of times the magnet sticks to your metal project. Works equally well with screws that are always just somewhere else. (holds a lot of screws, nuts, bolts, btw).

The only thing I’ve ever used a tip drill for is drilling through my fingernail to relieve the pressure of a blood blister. Probably not medically recommended but, it works very good!!
