School automatically assumes you know how to take notes, but you might not have been taught there are multiple ways to take notes, and some are better than others.

There are techniques that use the whole brain to note down information. Our left brain is linear, and our right brain is creative. When you can use both in capturing information, it makes it much more memorable.

This is a simple method you can use for note-making in any area of your life. By learning to use this technique, you’ll be able to learn important methods quickly in the future because you know how to effectively capture information.

For this method, it’s best to write by hand. Why?

Taking handwritten notes forces you to focus on the most important parts of the information you’re hearing and reading. It will increase your comprehension and will help you to identify how you might apply the information in the future.

Today's Assignment: Practice using the Capture Create note-making method!

During college, I was always terrible at note-taking! And nobody taught me how to take better notes. We all know reading your textbook is overwhelming and waaaay too much information to contain and remember, so you know the lectures your professors give you is the key is making the most of your exams and passing it with flying colors! The only way I was better at exams is simply by remembering the emphasis my professors put on things to remember by repeating the same things over and over or by letting students know that, "THIS QUESTION" will be on the exam, so you better remember! No longer in college, but this is applicable anywhere! Thanks for the tips, Jim! 😊
  • Jim, I am 65, just bumped into your Note Taking video(s). THANK YOU. Fantastic! Still learning. Bill

"Why MUST I use this?" is the question I definitely am needing to add, execute and utilize. Love this thank you.

I took notes from the video and I realized that when I normally take notes my mind use to go somewhere else (pending things to do, wishes etc) and I just focus on information caption, after this video I have learned that if I puts my mind to capture information but also to think about the real use and application of the content I will retain more information, that makes sense because you are adding something else beyond taking notes task, you are getting your brain working in real life application of the knowledge. That is great technique.!!

This has been my struggle from day 1 - I was the classic note taker that recorded lectures and then wrote notes VERBATIM 😱. Yep - didn’t retain. Thank you so much for this information!!

Interestingly I took notes of this video lesson in " capture create" method only. It's really helpful and makes you think about the information you capture. Thanks.

  • This is great! It is like the mirror image of the Cornell Method with the mental boost of “knowledge x action = power”.
