I completely forgot to put a disclaimer at the start of the video, but this video has spoilers for My Hero Academia up to Season 6/7, Jujutsu Kaisen up to Season 2, and Re:Zero up to Season 2
  • One dynamic that i adore btween a villain and a MC is Denji and Makima. They wanted almost the exact same thing deep down and approached them in completly different ways. You see that Makima could've achieved a far better dynamic with other people if she was raised in the right way. She would always have to be the devil of control, but that doesn't mean it has to be something so big that would completly disconnect her from any possibility of making bonds. I wish it was made more clear how basicaly the previous iteration of the control devil (Makima) was groomed since a young age and this affected her. By adopting Nayuta, Denji granted what Makima wanted. CSM truly touches the thematics of nature vs nuture very well.

Subaru just has so many goated antagonist dynamics. Like almost all of the major antags are personal foils in some key way. There’s so many other great dynamics out there tho, Thorfinn and Askeladd, Ichigo and Aizen, Kaneki and Furuta, the list goes on.
  • I really thought Roswaal was the best complementary character for Subaru until that one character from Arc 7.

Luffy and Blackbeard goes underappreciated. Luffy strives not only to become King of the Pirates, but to also become the freest man on the seas. He believes some fights are not worth fighting and that anything is possible. Blackbeard is set up perfectly because unlike other One Piece villains who cannot fathom Luffy's way of thinking, Blackbeard shares the exact same philosophy and dream as Luffy. The key difference is that there is no depths Blackbeard won't sink to in order to further his goals.
  • Dynamics ftw! The quality of a protag-antag pair can really make or break a narrative, and analyzing their interplay is usually a good way to gain a better understanding of what a story if trying to say. Well done.

According to MHA, ones the best antagonists are the ones that get mercilessly executed by the "hero" in a way that completely undermines the theme it's been building up for half a decade👌👌 Oh and especially ones that keep making the world smaller by having everything revolve around them and making the world smaller and smaller by having every bad thing that has ever happened in the history of the universe be their fault, all while constantly coming back over and over again while hijacking attention from everyone else. Truly nobody does it like HoriGOATshi👏👏

This is a sign for everyone to read Re Zero if they haven't already and for me to reread Arc 4 for like the 5th time.

  • A bit off topic but can I just say that your anime videos are currently some of the best on the entire platform and I really hope you keep growing and putting out quality content like this!

Fantastic video with great coverage of how influential the protag antag dynamic is on characters, it’s the primary reason I feel so disappointed in the handling of Izuku and Shigaraki, neither are their own characters anymore, merely vessels to move the plot onwards. Keep up the great work, not enough people are exposed to your content for how well you cover literary topics.
