I wanna tell Shereene from several years ago, who was grumpy her friends were going out while she studied, that she was going to help so many people because of her hustle, humor and tenacity. Such a light! I love starting my Saturdays with your videos.

Thank you so much for discussing genetic predisposition to dark undereyes. I inherited very deep-set eyes with extremely dark circles from my mother, who was Eastern European & Lebanese, both of which are ethnicities are heavily prone to significant pigmentation around the eyes. But rather than inheriting her olive complexion (which I think modern Western "beauty standards" are at least somewhat accepting of as being more a more "complimenting" skintone of that hyperpigmation), I inherited my Scottish & Irish father's much much more fair "cool undertone" complexion. So the added contrast has always caused my circles to have been extremely pronounced & "bruised" looking, even when I was a child. I've long known & understood that in my case it was hereditary, not an indication of me being "sickly" or "over-tired" as casual observers often take it upon themselves to comment on unsolicited, but sometimes it just feels very validating & affirming for medical professionals to remind the world of that. So thank you again.

I’m a Family Med Physician who has to know lot about everything. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE that you explain things down to the science so that even physicians can learn from you, but it’s not so overwhelmingly difficult that a non-medical person can’t understand. I hear and see the passion as you talk, and it’s infectious! So glad I found your channel

Thank you for validating that Arabs are genetically predisposed to dark under eyes from pigmentation. I’ve been trying to convince my family to not undergo procedures to “fix this problem” but felt crazy because no one believes me 😅 BTW, loved the family’s surprise appearance. Literally happens to me in every zoom meeting lol

Isn't it wonderful to be able to call yourself Doctor? Congratulations on the hard work you have done and continue to do.
  • When she says, "I've been taking it for over two decades" I'm like wow, ok, I taught she was on her late 20's. Chances are, she's on her 40's or late 30's. She looks soooo young. Congratulations on keeping your skin this beautiful.

I cannot thank you enough for this video. I've had dark pigmentation under my eyes since childhood and for the longest time I thought it was me being tired or something. A friend suggested just a year ago that it may be genetic and it's crazy that it had never crossed my mind given my mother also has them and has had them since youth. Your video helped me not only confirm that it is pigmentation but also provided me with products to try and minimise the darkness of it as much as possible. It's the first time I hear of this. I hate wearing concealer so I felt like it couldn't be helped for the longest time! Thank you so much, I will try that!

i’m 16 and have had dark under eyes since i was a little kid (around 4 or 5) nothing helps and it has made me so insecure of my face without makeup. I feel like I can never leave my house (or even my room, because i don’t even want my family to see how bad it is) if i don’t have color corrector and concealer covering my under eyes. I have never met anyone with under eyes as dark as mine and while I try to be confident, it’s hard to accept myself with them. I don’t know what to do.

This can be so helpful for those who don’t have the ability to see a dermatologist ❤️

You have a natural beauty. Thank you for not wearing fake eye lashes. I just like the more natural look.

KEEP HITTING THE TABLE! Dnt let these critics stop you from being you. I love watching your videos and I love your personality! Great content!
  • I think it's 100% possible to embrace aging gracefully and still take steps to preserve our youthfulness all we can. There's a fine line between taking steps to prevent wrinkles and allowing our entire lives to be consumed by it, though. I know I've walked that line a few times myself. <3

Im fair skinned and have had dark circles my entire life because of my coloring and bone shape. BUT I'm 33 and have no crows feet so I guess that's good.
  • You don't want to go on too long and bore us?! I could listen to you talk about this stuff for hours! So informative and entertaining. Thank you so much for these videos!

I'm starting medical school this summer & you inspired me to explore dermatology as a potential specialty :) Thank you for all your advice - it helped clear my hormonal acne & improve my skin so much! You rock Dr. Idriss!

THANK YOU for advising young adults to cherish their youth, providing both more affordable and high-end recommendations as well as science-based solutions, and linking the products mentioned. These videos are easy to consume and the products are convenient to find. Love hearing your relatable thoughts as a professional/subject matter expert!
  • @Sarah-xi8wy
I was showing my mom this video, told her you’re my favourite internet derm. She said she’s a dermatologist?! She looks 26 ❤️
  • Hi Shereene, love your videos :) is it possible to put 'example pictures' when describing each condition (ie herniated fat pads, puffy underlies etc). It may seems self explanatory, but it really helps to have a clear image of what is being described at each stage. lots of love and looking forward to many more videos from you x
