Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says development in the Gulf could lead to our first named storm of the season. Not a threat for us.

There are two areas of possible tropical development in the Atlantic Basin. An area of showers and storms near the Yucatan Peninsula in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico has a high chance for development early this week. It is expected to move west-northwestward into Mexico and possibly south Texas by the middle of this week.

Additionally, there is a low chance for possible development in the western Atlantic Ocean near the Bahamas later this week which may lead to a small feature moving into the Southeast US late in the week. Watching for any updates on if this feature can trek west into the central Gulf Coast but it will have to contend with dry air first.

Overall, there are no direct local impacts expected. However, tropical moisture moving into the region will lead to higher rain chances early this week. Plus, breezy conditions and minor coastal flooding is expected through midweek due to strengthening east winds as a result of the developing system in the southwestern Gulf.

  • Good thing it doesn’t have much time to strengthen, with the high heat in the Gulf.

Fascinating...any update on the 4.2 earthquake in FL? Wonder if there is any technology in the area charging the weather system?

0:47 It's not a rain threat. There's a need for rain in Mexico and other places. People want rain.
  • Weathermen: Most likely to be clueless when the solar storms strike and change everything that never happened in a model nor was ever part of their "field" to begin with. Its sad really.. they were never taught.

I wish that Rush Limbaugh was still alive to face the consequences of his lies about global warming being a hoax.

I look at the world as something that has been slowly heating up for thousands of years. Has any scientist looked at what is below the depths of the sea to examine the possibility of the volcanic eruptions in the oceans that could be a huge contributor. Who knows what "Yellowstone" type of eruptions have occurred over time in the oceans?
