How to Dress More Creatively | 3 Style Rules to use and break

Published 2024-01-26
Wondering how to dress more creatively instead of just following all the standard style rules? What if we use these 3 style rules when they work and break them when they don't? How do we dress more artsy, creatively, and funky when style rules usually point us toward "elegant" or "classy"... what about FUN?

The particular style rule that we're talking about here:
If your outfit isn't interesting with color, make it interesting with shape, and if it's not interesting with shape, make it interesting with texture. And if it's not interesting with texture...make it interesting with, you guessed it... color. Rinse and repeat.

So that seems pretty straightforward, but how do you make your outfit more stylish when this rule doesn't seem like enough? How about combining them! What are the circumstances where we don't need any of them?

  • I have wavy, curly hair. I see it as a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get!😊

Pockets always!!! I've stopped buying dresses / skirts / trousers without proper pockets; makes shopping for clothes much simpler, a lot fewer choices!

The yellow short dress with grey lantern pants was great!
  • 3:22 Pockets in skirts are Always worth talking about. And combos like the watermelon outfit are the unexpected inspiration I needed in my life— thanks for providing!! 🍉

Love your mindset! Why is Iris Apfel so famous? Certainly not for her classical elegance. Love that you want to be the wacky aunt! ❤

A no on the ruffle straps on the white top. At least for me. I loved everything else.

I liked everything except the white ruffled top —I found it distractingly wide. But it might look great with a pair of dark, narrow pants. Or skinny jeans even.(i hear they’re ‘back’ this week.)

I love your outfits 🥰I have also always liked a lot of colors and different styles mixed together! I mean if you compare from clothing styles from the past it seems like people had so much more fun… what happened? That whole capsule wardrobes suggested now are sooooo boring

Love the inspiration. I, too, know the woes of wavy hair and share your love of pockets.
  • If you put a sweater on top of overalls, good luck if you suddenly have to pee. And just throwing a coat on top of a blah dress is ok as long as you're outside, but who leaves a coat on indoors?

It might be you're gamin body type (of Kibbe types). That's why you look so good dressed like French.
