The Great Baton Rouge Flood of 2016

This is the view from my front porch looking towards my street on the morning the flood began, maybe about 10:30am. The homes to the east or left in this video started taking water inside around midnight.

Here you can see the National Guard and other emergency services evacuating people from the worst areas a quarter mile to the east (left). You can't see it because it is blocked by the tree to the left but there is a Coast Guard helicopter doing a rooftop rescue maybe a quarter mile away. By this point there were no more hoards of people walking in front of our house as the water had gotten too high. I didn't take video of them because you could see they were devastated and I didnt think it was cool to be taking video of their faces.

By the grace of God our home did not flood inside, although the water reached to within an inch of going in the front and back doors. My neighbors house to the left took about an inch or two inside, my neighbor to the right several inches in his garage only. The homes behind my house, several feet inside. Our home as it turned out, sits just a little bit higher than everyone else's. Homes a quarter mile to the east (left) and north had water up to their roofs. Homes to the west (right) and south had 2 to 3 feet.
