🟢 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.

If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

My dude, you don’t have a food review show. You have a cultural documentary. I’ve watched you eat raw intestine, drink blood and bile, and now this. And you do so with a great deal of compassion and understanding. My guy, I have so much respect for you. Thank you for showing compassion to everyone.
  • @TheChuiShow
It was beautifully documented and edited Sonny! Thank you so much for letting me hang out with you and share you this experience. I'm stoked for the next upcoming videos!! 🇵🇭
  • @ValkyrieRnGris

I'm filipino, this is indeed true, I can't even watch this video. It will breaks my heart and cry. I never experience to eat pagpag but I experience not having enough food , hunger when I was a young. Even my parents used to tell us how poor they were. Im thankful and grateful for my life right now , I have a stable job and I can buy food for myself and for my family. I am thankful to Almighty God for the life that we have right now, we no longer poor .

So I'm South African but spent a few years abroad working & travelling - I remember watching a documentary about PagPag and at the time I had some filipino colleagues and few close friends of mine at the time were also filipino. I was pretty much in disbelief about pagpag until they told me it is indeed true.
One thing I have learned about filipinos are that they are never ashamed of their upbringing, circumstances and just in general where they come from. From the slums or not they'll proudly show you pictures and tell you about their lives. They are very hardworking people and often when they work abroad they hardly save even a dollar for themselves, it all goes to their families. I must however mention there are some who come from more upper class families but still they choose to work to earn an honest living. Until you've met filipinos and actually gotten to know them you'll not truly understand their type of resilience and perserverance. Its actually really inspiring. This video made me tear up because I remember how the filipino crew at work always used to say "lets eat" ...they'll always extend an invite to join them when they all sit down together for dinner. Some of my fav filipino dishes are chicken adobo, bicol express, pancit and then this sweet cake/scone like thing with cheese ontop... yum! Those are only a few lol.

May this documentary be an eyeopener and let us never forget to thank God everyday for all his wonderful blessings big or small.

    God bless everyone in 🇵🇭

    Much love!

This is not a food review. This is a documentary of people trying to survive, working their way to make a saving for their family. Thank you for your video, Sonny. Hope your channel grows.
  • @chrisbirch2002
this makes me realize how much i have and both compassionate and thankful.
  • @elettramia6380
This is sad and disgusting, especially when there was a hair blob in the garbage with the chicken, but I respect the people who have learned this trait for survival. No human should have to resort to this and if they do then you have failed your people as the government of a country. Remember your blessings.
  • @PLUMandPINE
this has got to be one of the most difficult things to watch in this channel, and I applaud you for sharing the struggle of the Filipinos who are so under-priveleged and the ugly side of Manila. Praying that your gut will not be harmed in the long run.
  • @AllanJorda12
I like how Sonny is being respectful in showing us this video to the world. Yes, the food came from a dump. No, it is not encouraged we should eat this, but this is about resilience and Sonny, you're not only showing what Pagpag is, you're showing the world that there is struggle everywhere and I appreciate how this video is well thought out. Great job!
  • @austerlitzmiral
Im ugly crying in this video. So inciteful, beautifully-done, no judgement. Thank you for shedding light into this without trying to exploit these people more.
  • @eliasaltenberg
This channel can teach you more about the world in one episode than most schools and colleges can teach you in multiple years. This episode made me extremely sad, but it also made me realize how insignificant my problems are and how fortunate most of us are. Not to disparage the struggle these people go through just to survive every day.
  • @cytu1198
I've had the privilege of interacting with Filipino people both in New Zealand and the Philippines, and I must say, they are among the most wholesome and friendly individuals I've ever met. Despite their circumstances, they maintain a positive attitude, as highlighted in this video. As a Samoan, I often get mistaken for being Filipino, and I always take it as a huge compliment.
  • @Zo-Killa
I'm a black man who grew up poor. Didn't have a whole lot until late in my life. So watchin this channel n videos gave me an appreciation for different cultures n makes me more grateful n thankful n showed me that I had it better than I ever knew. Even thru the struggle...
  • @TheMiaBia
This the type of stuff that’ll have me 1000 times a day thanking god for what he has given me gotta stay grateful
  • @diogenesmonk
I was homeless in the U.S. and Europe for 8 years...ate outta the garbage at least once a week, depending on the circumstance, never once got food poisoning. If you know how to spot spoilage or cross contamination its really not an issue. Yeah maybe some people could have bad intentions and try to profit off of selling rotten food, but it seems to me that all of these people are just trying to support themselves and their community, so, don't knock it till you try it!!
  • @donibell7464
'Poverty Porn''. you nailed it sonny.
Some streamers/vloggers do that just to gain more views. But they don't really explain what's the story behind their poverty
  • @jusimplicit
This hits home. I am a 2nd generation Filipino American. My mom came to the Unites States with her Nursing Degree that my Grandmother and Grandfather paid for through hard work like these people in happyland, but deeper in the provinces. My mom used to tell me stories when she was a kid the ONLY thing they would have to eat was rice. Meat was merely a luxury. It was also not uncommon to go to sleep crying because of hunger. My mom is now retired after being a critical care nurse for 35+ years with millions in retirement from sheer heavy hours of work (2 full time jobs and a per diem) She always maxed her 401Ks every year. My brother and I followed in our mother's footsteps and are both RNs with families of our own. Whenever I think about where our family started from, it is utterly insane how our family line literally came from the very same similar circumstances as these people. It all started from the effort that my grandparents put in to crawl out of this type of poverty. I couldn't be more grateful and appreciative of where I came from.
  • Kudos! This is such an eye-opening and very insightful episode. I am a Filipino and yes this kind of food exist in my country. I promise myself that in future, I would help my less fortunate people to alleviate their hunger by providing them meals that everyone can afford. That will be my mission. Thank you BEFRS for not just documenting but genuinely sharing this video with compassion and social awareness.
