The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the most exciting Zelda development in years and also kind of terrifying.

Alright maybe the box art thing is a bit of a nitpick LOL but I just wish Zelda had more presence in the image. Though a lot of that might just be down to the lack of personality in these little button-eyed lego people, which is exactly one of my big problems with the style. You might not even identify that as Zelda at a glance if you didn't already know. Everything else though, I AIN'T APOLOGIZIN'!!! Game still looks cool and I'm still excited, not really sure why everyone's so up in arms here. Cautious optimism is kind of my thing.

Arlo: "Why is it toys now?" My husband: "Weird thing for a muppet to say."

You did tell Nintendo to make more asset reusing sequels. The reuse of Link's Awakenings' art style is definitely completely your fault.
  • 14:54 I super disagree with this take. I get why you'd feel that way, but I think they put a lot of thought into why a Zelda game would play differently, and why it should be like this. Link's main trait is courage. He rushes headfirst into fights. Zelda has her wisdom. She's strategic and thinks through her problems. If she just used spells and fought like Link, that would suffice, but this is a creative and unique way to demonstrate that difference in abilities instead of just making her girl Link with special powers.

I have to nitpick at the claim that Link is bigger in the art because they want to play it safe: Having other characters (and this includes Ganon in this poster) being large in the background behind the main/player character is pretty common in promotional art in general. The protagonist looks small while villains and other characters loom large in order to promote a mood. (Not that there haven't been weird uses of this but those are stories for another time.)

I really really wish he was using his puppet when he said "I'm not a child playing with toys"

Guys, we have seen two minutes of gameplay, calm down. This is the central game mechanic, but we dont know what else zelda can do in this game yet, she may get more abilities as the game progresses. Personally, I'm into the idea of playing zelda as a conjurer/summoner.

“I want more asset-reusing Zelda sequels” “…No not like that”
  • Between this game not being called “The Legend of Link” and DKCR HD not being called “Donkey Kong Country Returns Returns”, Nintendo is missing out on some incredibly funny opportunities

The words “plastic” and “toys” never even appeared in my mind in regard to the Link’s Awakening remake until this video and while I guess I see what you mean, I don’t really agree. I like the art style, it’s colorful and clean without feeling stiff.

The art style actually makes the most sense here because you’re actually building things and making things appear. It’s like an interactive dollhouse or toy box
  • I think he's fundamentally misunderstanding Nintendo. I don't think Nintendo created the Echo Power to fit Zelda. I think it was probably the other way around. They created the Echo Power and then they realized that it fits Zelda more than Link. Nintendo is all about gameplay first. I doubt they went "we need a zelda game where you play as Zelda. What kind of gameplay would suit her... Maybe spells?"
  • I call it now: Link will be an echo. In the last fight at the very least.
  • ...Can we acknowledge how both designs of Zoras are now in the same game, seemingly in conflict?

Arlo: I have been waiting for a Zelda-led game. Also Arlo: I have been waiting for an original 2D Zelda game. Nintendo: Why don’t we give you both? Arlo didn’t like that.
  • If I can kill Ganon with the first wooden table I see in the game I will be amused
  • Can't believe how low Nintendo has fallen! They made Zelda a girl!
  • I think Nintendo knows there’s two groups of Zelda fans: the first group is the fans who like 2d Zelda with stricter puzzles, and the second group is the fans who like open world Zelda like Breath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom, and I think Nintendo is trying to mix elements of both types of games with this game. They’re trying to make it 2d but also make it so you can do anything for the puzzles. I think they’re trying to make everyone happy by doing it, but I don’t know if it’ll work..
