A Week at Wren Cottage 2023 - Walking to Fountains Abbey - National Trust

In August 2023 we spent a week in a National Trust Cottage close to Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire. This comfortable base gave us easy access to plenty of interesting walks including this one direct from the cottage door. First though on the evening of our arrival we took advantage of the warm sun to walk up to the tower behind the accommodation to enjoy the wonderful views. On day one our gentle looping walk of about 12 miles took us first to the small cathedral city of Ripon before turning back westwards to ascend to Studley Royal and eventually to the Abbey ruins. Tired legs then climbed back up the steep route to our home for the week.
