Sam Harris: Arguments against religion - Part 1

I will never forget the first time I heard Sam Harris speak, 20 years ago. It was like a bomb went off in my consciousness. Never had I heard someone deliver such knock-out blows so seemingly effortlessly in speech. To this day, it is a music that still rings as devastatingly mighty as on that very first.

Harris's analogy between religion and placebo at 7:00 is absolutely fantastic!

I struggled for years to purge the last poisonous religious ideology out of my mind. I eventually came to the simple conclusion that I am too good a person to be religious.

I stated listening to Dr. Harris about 7 years ago and was immediately intrigued. I was addicted instantly. He has a way of putting things into perspective, and he does it in a way that cannot even be debated. He and a few others convinced me that it is pointless to believe in ANY religion. He and the other 3 horsemen opened my eyes to the silliness of it all. The contradictions… the lies… the unmistakable evil of “the good book”. Aron Ra, Seth Andrews, Matt Dillahunty… I know I’m forgetting some others but… they’re all amazing people.

It is reassuring to see so many positive responses, as below, to Sam Harris. Maybe people are at last waking up to the truth but we have a long way to go especially in apparently well-educated nations like the USA, where as he says biology teachers are afraid to teach the established principle of evolution based on genetics, in case the parents of the students, remove that teacher from the school. Greatest Exponent of Critical thinking and reasoning in the understanding of deluded beliefs...we can open our minds to scientific thinking and get away from superstition and religious dogma...man has to do this and change humanity..Thank you Mr Harris for your great discourse ❤❤

I like Sam's invented religion. where if you don't follow the beliefs of his religion. you will be forced to live out eternity with a seven headed demon named Dexter. it still sounds more sane than any of our current religions.

The only honest answer we can really say about why we are here and exist, is I don't know, and that's ok. But religious people can't except that.

Sometimes I find myself making these very same arguments when having conversations with my fellow countrymen in benign social gatherings. It is still to this day very surprising to see how Italians look at me as if they had never thought nor entertained themselves with such ideas and arguments. I then try to throw some Ricky Gervais remarks to try to lighten up the situation but not even comedy and some hitch slaps can save me. Oh Thor this makes me feel really lonely sometimes

Mr. Harris! Just discovered you from Canada! Fantastic! I guess somebody finally got that old '50's NORAD base up and running! I'd better go around on my snowmobile and tell all the locals that the war is over !!! And Yay for us ! Who the hell is this Trump 'A' hole? and what's a Skittle? As a fellow atheist, keep plugging' Brother. I dropped that stone off my back in my early teens. Great stuff !!
