The Last ever Train of the Ruston 165 saved from Scrap on the Colne Valley Railway

Publicado 2024-07-17
Hello everyone,
Today is a big one - with transport booked to bring 281266 to it's new home, we decided it would be fitting to run one last train at the Colne Valley, just to say it had actually run there in preservation.

This video is sponsored by our friends over at AWI, who make binaural microphones - which we use on the channel!
Check them out here! sr3d.co.uk/?ref=LMM

If you want to be amazing and help out with the Fundraiser to help restore this, and other other locomotives in the LMM collection, the link is here: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/save-281266

If you'd like to find out more about the Colne Valley Railway, check out their website here: www.colnevalleyrailway.co.uk/

If you want to come see the 165 yourself, it'll be on show at the Whitwell and Reepham Railway on the 10th of August 2024 for 'LMMfest' our big first big meet of the year!

A video featuring:
Lawrie - Presenter, overly excited to take the 165 out for a trip,
Lozz - Cameraman, equally excited to see the 165 haul its first train!

very happy we saved this one - I would not be surprised if Lawrie ends up with his very own railway line just for the many Rustons he will own

Worth every penny. I’m sure everyone who gave is very chuffed to see it running so well.
  • The Colne Valley is the first preservation railway we visited when I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters in 1991. Great save on charming little loco and a fitting farewell. Cheers Terry

The more I watch of your channel, Lawrie, the more I hate it that I'm stuck on entirely the wrong side of The Pond to come to these events and help out myself as part of it all. It honestly genuinely almost physically hurts.

You know Lawrie, one thing you've done here is prove to a legion of people that the starter train sets we all had/have, have a prototype. And frankly I fail to see the problem with that. As the old saying goes, "There's a prototype for everything."
  • Lawrie, I am stunned. Usually you get things that don't run and restore then!!😂 she's beautiful!! Congratulations!!! Many happy years of operation of the LMM Railroad!!!

BOY would it have been amazing to see you pull the HST - coughs - honest :)
  • @stevesalvage1089
Super , very pleased it's safe from the scrap yard , thanks for sharing Lawrie
  • Just saw DVT 82121 as you shunted past which i worked many times on the Norwich/Liverpool St run , happily both still here & living the easy life in retirement 😂🎉🎉

At least she is running well and it does look like one of the Hornby sets with the 0-4-0 Barclay or Bagnall diesel shunter from the drone view. One modification I would do is put a tool box cabinet in the cab like what we have in ours at Bewdley, which stores useful tools, battery charger and cleaning items.
  • Glad to have played a (small) part in helping save her from the scrap yard. Though she looks like she's burning a fair bit of oil that even your Italian tune-up didn't fix :(

Pretty cool man!!! Definitely did not need scraping! Nice save! Always a pleasure when someone cares enough about history to work to preserve it!
  • @fishw
Very happy to see this run, even if I missed out on it being mine. Very glad the LMM family brought it and it's running and has a home. Also bit proud to of helping abit to save it

Can't wait for the restoration and love the videos of rustons

Since that thing is so boxy and it has some gray pannels, maybe you should name it "cinder block"
  • @marionbloom1218
My first train set, about 1965, was a blue 0-4-0 diesel (clockwork powered!) with one open wagon and a guard's van! By Tri-ang Hornby naturally. Seeing this really took me back.

3:36 you can see a decorative 'Not to be Moved' board on the train being moved :P

It's nice to see these machines being preserved and not scrapped. Also that engine could use some cleaner in the fuel to help the engine and it needs to be ran for a long time to clean up or it could just be old fuel. Have some people in my area that have steam traction engines and older tractors mainly. Nearest steam preservation railway I know of is the Silverton Durango Trains. Hope to see more of the other train soon as an update on what you have found with it.
