It sounds like that person should try to accept that the person that they didn't choose deserves a chance to see what kind of person that they can be when they aren't playing for their own agenda. We are all human, yes, but being better also means "treating others how we want to be treated." Such a cliche, but so true. If I were them, I would reach out as a friend, explain what they are able to explain, and be willing to accept what the other is able/willing to return. If they struggle with describing feelings, it doesn't have to be complicated - there just needs to be a breakdown of ego that makes them believe there has to be a perfect solution with a known outcome before they can move forward. It could be a beautiful opportunity to start from an authentic and real place... If the other person hasn't had positive experiences with waiting on them and there is someone else who has recently entered their life... It is not their job to believe anything that hasn't been true of the pattern. That doesn't mean giant leaps, but some type of indication that there is a willingness to try to be better... A new beginning cannot come, nor can they return to where they previously ended... If a new pattern is not established. There are likely unique things that the other can offer up in exchange... A balance of individual growth that can draw each other nearer.
