The tragic situation in this part of Africa is the worst case scenario for nearly everyone. The UN has long ago lost any ability to deal with humanitarian crises in light of the current political climate. It will just have to play out to the end game of whoever decides to take charge there.

I'm Kenyan and I see how the Somalis from Somaliland move here almost daily. My wife works in one of their schools. They are the most organized businessmen we have here, and the enclaves they have in Nairobi are impressive. Here's hoping they get the recognition they deserve.

It makes sense that Taiwan is the only country that recognizes Somaliland because Taiwan knows what it's like to want to be recognized as a country

Growing up in Kenya, there was very little we knew about Somaliland other than the fact that it was a British protectorate separate from the rest of Somalia that was under Italian rule in the colonial days. We do have a very large population of Somali people in our country(both immigrants & Somalis who are essentially Kenyans due to how the borders were drawn & some Cushitic tribes being within the borders of Kenya). In all my years I've only known one person who was from Somaliland and this was a while ago but she always spoke very fondly of her homeland & how she longed to go back one day & possibly even relocate from Kenya back to Somaliland. I'm not going to sit here & act like I know what the best solution for Somaliland & Somalia is but I really hope our brothers & sisters in this region can start taking steps towards a peaceful future because it's always sad seeing average citizens in all these countries who have dreams & aspirations being taken away from them by tyrants who keep the vicious cycle of violence going for generations. Much love to all our neighbours in East Africa/The horn of Africa.
  • It's a shame that a peaceful country is being left out to dry just because of geopolitical concerns, in such a volatile region the tiniest chance of peace should be grabbed. If the world neglects Somaliland then will there be any incentive for any individuals in any war torn country to be peaceful?

Back in the late 80s I worked on a base design project to convert an abandoned Soviet base to a US base, converting Russian fuel pumps to US Military standards. This was just outside Berbera. At that time after the Soviet collapse and before the Somalia govt collapse it looked somewhat promising, but then the Government only controlled the roads in the daytime. After the collapse, we pulled back. Then Blackhawk down and we pulled out. Somilland has a deep sea port that could serve many ships and an airfield designed to land the Soviet space shuttle.

I want freedom for Somaliland and a good government and thank you for talking about Somaliland.

About the Somaliland election issue, an agreement has already been reached between the gov and opposition. The election will be held in November 2024, this will be Somalilands 6th free, election since it broke away from Somalia in 1991. One good and permenant thing they have in Somaliland is peace and order, there is authority in Somaliland unlike the chaotic South which is pretty much the Wild West in certain regions.

Iam from Somaliland and Somaliland deserves recognition I hope IGAD and AU recognise Somaliland Also Somalia realises to give Somaliland recognition because all other African countries are saying Somalia have to recognise Somaliland first then we flow suit. Another way is if Referendum is held which Somalia dont want do. One day Somaliland will be recognised because we fullfilled all the requirements of a nation.

Somaliland has been in limbo waiting for Somalia to get its act together for years. With the first phases of Berbera port improvements completed by DP World, it wakes sense for Ethiopia to diversify its access to a sea port to supports its development rather then provoke a war with Eritrea. This is a win - win for both countries. PS — Nothing is stopping Somalia from getting its act together and making a deal to integrate with Somaliland.
  • @johndelagarza361
Hopefully Ethiopia and Somaliland are able to work out a deal for their mutual benefit.

THis is Huge step Forward for Somaliland Ethiopia Relationship... There's no Going Back
  • @Jayjay-qe6um
On January 1, 2024, Ethiopia and Somaliland signed a agreement giving Ethiopia access to the Red Sea in return for eventual recognition, making it the first UN member state to do so.
  • @niceonechief6302
So what you’re telling me is I should absolutely invest in Somaliland oil?

  • Correction Somalia 🇸🇴 arms embargo has been lifted last month! And Somalia had debt relief having debts written off
  • @Tmaget
The hardest part about being an African horn nation is not maintaining peace but not going to war with your neighbors
